Job Description

Role & responsibilities

  • Strategic Talent Acquisition & Planning

    : Build and maintain a robust pipeline of qualified candidates for critical roles (e.g.,

    Carpenters, Bar Benders, Masons, labourers, Operators, Electricians, and Plumbers

    ).
  • Oversee the full recruitment lifecycle for all labor positions, from sourcing and screening to offer and onboarding.
  • Utilize a multi-channel approach to sourcing, including job boards (Indeed, LinkedIn, specialized construction sites), social media, employee referrals, job fairs, and partnerships with trade schools and unions.
  • Ensure a positive and efficient candidate experience, from initial contact to the first day on the job.
  • Implement and manage an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) to streamline processes and track key metrics.
  • End-to-end process management

    : Oversee the entire hiring lifecycle, including posting jobs on multiple platforms, sourcing candidates, screening applications, conducting interviews, and making final selections.
  • Stakeholder collaboration

    : Work closely with hiring managers, project managers, and other leaders to understand staffing needs and develop specific job descriptions and specifications.
  • Sourcing and talent pipelines: Actively source candidates through various channels, such as online job boards, social media, professional associations, and industry events, and build a pipeline of potential candidates.
  • Candidate assessment

    : Conduct thorough interviews and evaluations to assess candidates' qualifications, skills, experience, and cultural fit for the specific construction environment.
  • Offer negotiation and compliance: Lead the offer negotiation process and ensure compensation packages are competitive and fair. They must also stay current with and ensure compliance with all relevant labor legislation.
  • Budget and metrics management

    : Manage the recruitment budget effectively and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate and improve the efficiency of recruitment efforts.
  • Team Leadership & Vendor Management

    : Lead, mentor, and develop a team of recruiters and/or recruitment coordinators. Manage relationships with external recruitment agencies and staffing firms, when necessary. Negotiate contracts and manage the budget for recruitment-related activities and tools.

Preferred candidate profile

Proven experience (10+ years) in high-volume recruitment, with at least 3 years in a management or team lead capacity.

  • Demonstrable experience recruiting for skilled trades and construction labor roles.
  • Deep understanding of the construction industry, including key roles, terminology, and project lifecycles.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and HR software.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines.
