Commercial Underwriting Manager

Role & responsibilities

• Develop and maintain clear underwriting guidelines and policies for the Commercial Lines team, ensuring they align with company objectives and industry best practices.
• Provide technical expertise and support to underwriters in evaluating complex or high-value commercial insurance risks to ensure sound underwriting decisions.
• Analyze the commercial insurance portfolio to maintain a balanced mix of risks, optimize profitability, and achieve target loss ratios.
• Collaborate with actuarial teams to establish competitive and sustainable pricing for various commercial insurance products.
• Implement risk mitigation strategies and loss control measures to reduce the frequency and severity of commercial insurance claims.
• Provide training and development opportunities to underwriting teams to enhance their technical underwriting skills and knowledge.
• Conduct regular underwriting audits and quality assurance checks to ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines and compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with product development teams to identify opportunities for enhancing existing commercial insurance products or developing new ones to meet market demands.
• Collaborate with the claims team to provide technical guidance on complex or contentious commercial insurance claims, ensuring fair and accurate claim settlements.
• Conduct market research to identify emerging trends, competitor offerings, and potential growth areas in the commercial insurance market.
• Foster strong relationships with brokers, clients, and reinsurers to enhance business partnerships and provide exceptional customer service.
• Ensure all commercial underwriting practices comply with regulatory requirements and industry guidelines.
• Utilize data analytics and risk modeling to make informed and data-driven underwriting decisions for commercial insurance.
