Chief Design Manager

JOB SUMMARY:

Minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience in Design and Engineering of GIS and AIS Substations projects

Primary Engineering Design

PRE-BID DESIGN:

• Analyze tender documents, client technical specifications, and project requirements
• Prepare conceptual primary layout drawings, single-line diagrams (SLDs), and equipment arrangement plans based on tender scope
• Develop preliminary BOQ (Bill of Quantities), equipment sizing, and quantity take-offs for major items (CTs, PTs, breakers, disconnectors, etc.)
• Propose optimized layout solutions considering cost, space, reliability, and constructability
• Collaborate with proposal and estimation teams to finalize cost-effective design solutions
• Provide technical inputs for bid documents, method statements, and compliance matrices
• Interface with OEMs/vendors for technical data, specifications, and pricing inputs
• Identify technical risks, deviations, and value-engineering opportunities
• Support clarification responses, client presentations, and technical bid evaluations

EXECUTION OF CONTRACT

• Prepare primary design drawings including:
• General Arrangement (GA) / Layouts
• Equipment layout plans
• Sectional views
• Cable routing diagrams
• Earthing layouts and details
• Busbar calculations and drawings
• HV equipment connection and interconnection details
• Conduct equipment sizing and selection (circuit breakers, isolators, CTs, PTs, surge arresters, etc.)
• Perform clearance studies (electrical & mechanical) as per IS/IEC/IEEE standards
• Develop and review substation grounding (earthing) design
• Support the preparation of bill of quantities (BOQ) and material specifications
• Ensure designs are compliant with relevant standards (IEC, IEEE, IS, CBIP, etc.)
• Coordinate with secondary design, civil, and protection teams for interface clarity
• Support proposal and estimation teams during bidding stages with design input
• Participate in design reviews, client meetings, and technical discussions
