Buyer - Packaging

Job Purpose

The Packaging Buyer will act as a subject matter expert (SME) in packaging procurement for Domestic & global automotive business. The role requires comprehensive expertise in cost management, supplier negotiations, packaging development, and end-to-end supply chain coordination across multiple (6nos) manufacturing locations.

About the Role

Develop sourcing strategies, select suppliers, issue RFQs, conduct negotiations and comparative evaluations, create purchase orders (POs), and follow up on payments, material deliveries, and necessary statutory documentation. Identify cost-saving leap projects. Collaborate with other buyers on the team to leverage synergies.

Key Responsibilities

• Managing end to end P2P activities of assigned categories
• Source potential Vendors, manage the request for proposal (RFP) process, and evaluate vendor proposals based on factors such as functionality, pricing, warranty, after sales support.
• Creation of comparatives & Purchase orders
• Price settlement with suppliers
• Annual rate contracts through i-certis.
• Development of alternate Suppliers
• Maintain savings data on weekly basis
• Automation of processes & e-procurement practices.
• Adherence to compliance directives
• Price controls & reviews
• New packaging development:
• Conduct regular price reviews based on commodity price movements in paper, steel, and polythene to ensure cost competitiveness.
• Lead packaging development initiatives for global automotive projects in collaboration with cross-functional teams (engineering, logistics, and quality).
• Manage the supply chain of packaging materials across six manufacturing locations, ensuring seamless availability and standardization.
• Develop and execute packaging cost models and benchmarking for items such as corrugated boxes, laminates, bubble wraps, steel boxes, and wooden crates.
• Drive supplier performance management, including cost optimization, quality improvement, and delivery reliability.

Savings & Performance

• To generate savings through identifying LEAP projects, alternate sourcing, scope optimisation,
• To settle Schedule Agreement/ annual rate contracts (ARC) for assigned category, Price negotiation with supplier for PR based / Spot buying with local & global suppliers
• Supply performance monitoring

Creating SOP / Scheduled agreement for Purchasing area

• To identify area where SOP to be created
• SOP creation & implementation

Qualifications & Experience

• B.Tech in Packaging engineering , Graduate from IIP (Indian institute of packaging )
• 8-10 years

Technical Skills

• Strong understanding of commodity price trends in paper, steel, and polymers.
• Proven record of accomplishment in packaging design and development projects.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience working with ERP systems (SAP) and data analytics tools for price tracking.
• Ability to manage complex supply chains across multiple manufacturing locations.
