Backend Engineer

StapuBox is building a sports networking platform for players, coaches, academies, and venues. Our backend systems power discovery, connections, and real-time interactions across the platform. We are seeking a Backend Engineer who can build reliable services, think in systems, and deliver production-grade code.

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
• Build and optimise APIs that power mobile and web experiences.
• Work with relational and non-relational databases (MySQL, MongoDB).
• Implement event-driven flows using Apache Kafka.
• Enhance performance and scalability by utilising caching solutions like Redis.
• Ensure reliability through proper logging, monitoring, and observability (ELK stack).

• Contribute directly to the core backend systems of a sports networking platform.
• Build scalable, maintainable services used by athletes, coaches, and organisations.
• Own backend modules end-to-end: from design to deployment.
• Learn and apply real-world backend engineering practices in a production environment.

• Strong in Core Java, with a solid understanding of OOP, collections, and concurrency.
• Hands-on with Spring Boot for building RESTful backend services.
• Comfortable working with databases and data models.
• Familiar with event-driven architecture and asynchronous processing.
• Confident using Git, build tools (Maven/Gradle), and Docker.
• A problem-solver who can independently debug and improve backend systems.

• 2+ years of total backend development experience.
• Experience building or operating scalable, high-availability systems.
• Understanding of distributed systems fundamentals and trade-offs.
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and cloud-based infrastructure.
• Interest or experience in building platforms, social products, or high-interaction systems.

• Work directly with founders on a 0→1 consumer and community platform.
• Get exposure to real production-scale backend architecture and decision-making.
• Freedom to influence system design and engineering best practices early.
• High potential to grow into a senior backend or platform engineering role.
