Associate - BSO - Tax Reclaims

About Business line/Function:

Global Custody team in BNP Paribas Securities Services are segregated into Corporate Actions, Income and Tax for operational efficiency and accuracy. Global Custody Tax team handles the client documentations for offering tax benefits to the client. An Associate in Global Tax department performs all the task of processing the daily BAU as per the Standing operating procedure.

Responsibilities

• Act as a reference point for the tax team members and train/guide them through the daily activities.
• Allocate work, set priorities for the day and manage complex tasks in daily operations.
• Perform checker functions for all manual activities related to tax functions.
• Responsible to deliver and meet KPI in accordance to the set standard.
• Collect and analyse Tax information and Documentation and ensure complete review of the tax documentation.
• Update Tax database allowing correct fiscal treatment according to applicable DTA, client residence & status and sub-custodians procedures
• Provide clients with regular market updates and tax matrices
• Manage fiscal documentation required for relief-at-source and monitor the application of the correct withholding tax as per rules
• Preparing tax reclaim forms and close monitoring of reclaim status with tax reclaim system
• Collect funds from the Tax Authorities and Sub-custodians and refund the same to the client
• Provide such certification or disclose such information as requested by the Tax Authorities and Sub-custodians to ensure that the Clients are paid at the eligible rates.
• Justifying and resolving the cash breaks to Control Teams
• Participate in Brain Storming Sessions and share the best practices and ideas with the peer groups and team members.
• Consistently evaluate and update documented procedures to ensure they are complete, accurate and current.
• Perform daily controls on team activity as per existing check lists to ensure priorities have been respected and tasks have been correctly performed.
• Escalate to the Team Leader any incident or operational risk.
• To prepare monthly KPIs based on requirements.
• To be based in Chennai and prepared to travel as required.
• Must be prepared to work in any shift supporting Asia/Americas/European business hours.
• Must act according to protocols defined for Business contingencies (BCP).

• Strong understanding of Tax laws and Withholding taxes
• Knowledge about the Double Tax Treaty Agreements, International Taxation, Custody Operations, Relief at source and Reclaim
• Experience in International Taxation and Tax Treaty is an added advantage
• Strong analytical skills, detail orientation, service commitment, and solid organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications and strong MS-Word & Excel skills required.
• Must be prepared to work in flexible timings

Prior articleship experience in Taxation or equivalent.
