Sucheta Business Consultancy is hiring for its shared services center. Our client is a UK-headquartered healthcare organisation focused on hospitals & clinics, with operations in the UK. Our Pune Shared Services Centre supports group-wide HR, payroll, finance and other corporate functions.

Role Overview

Assistant Manager UK Payroll

Role & responsibilities

Team Leadership & Daily Operations

  • Build, lead and supervise a team of three payroll executives, ensuring timely and accurate handling of payroll queries from the UK HR and payroll teams.
  • Coordinate daily workloads, set priorities, and ensure SLAs and quality standards are consistently met.
  • Review team outputs and provide guidance on complex or ambiguous cases.
  • Act as process owner for payroll within the Dayforce HRIS / payroll platform.

UK Payroll Support & Escalation Handling

  • Act as the primary escalation point for issues that cannot be resolved by payroll executives.
  • Liaise with UK HR, finance and payroll teams to clarify requirements, resolve discrepancies, and ensure smooth month-end processing.
  • Review payroll inputs, reports, reconciliations, and exception cases before approval or submission.

Compliance & Process Quality

  • Ensure adherence to UK payroll regulations (PAYE, NI, statutory deductions, pensions, SMP/SSP, etc.) within the scope of operations handled by the Pune team.
  • Maintain process accuracy, documentation, and audit readiness.
  • Support statutory or internal audits by preparing required data and reports.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, reduce errors, and improve team efficiency.
  • Provide training and upskilling for payroll executives on UK payroll concepts, tools, and best practices.
  • Support payroll transitions, system changes, and process enhancement initiatives.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Education & Professional Background

  • Graduate / Postgraduate in Commerce, Finance, HR, or related field e.g., B.Com / M.Com / MBA/PGDM HR / (Other).
  • Total Experience:

    (3 to 5) years in payroll with at least (1 to 2) years in a people-management role, preferably in a

    global/shared services

    or captive centre environment.
  • Previous experience handling escalations or mentoring junior staff is preferred.
  • UK payroll

    experience is essential NHS / healthcare sector exposure is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Experience managing multi-country payroll (APAC/EMEA) or working with global payroll vendors will be an advantage.

Technical Skills

  • Understanding of UK payroll fundamentals including PAYE, National Insurance, pension auto-enrolment, statutory payments, and common payroll exceptions.
  • Working knowledge of HRIS or payroll platforms (Dayforce).
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations).
  • Familiarity with HR Shared Services metrics, SLAs and ticketing tools (e.g. (ServiceNow / Zendesk / Zoho Desk Other). This will be a short term implementation goal.

Behavioural Skills

  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with UK stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage workload, balance priorities, and lead a small team effectively.
  • Problem-solving mindset with willingness to take ownership.

Work Pattern

  • Base location: Pune Shared Services Centre Sinhgad Road.
  • Work mode: Work from office. with mandatory working days aligned to payroll cycles and UK bank holidays.
  • Shift timing: UK aligned shift 12:00 pm to 9.00 pm IST.
  • Occasional extended hours around month-end, year-end and key projects.
