Position: Artisan Research Intern

Location: Remote (with potential field visits if needed)

Duration: 3-4 months (can be extended based on mutual agreement)

Deadline to Apply: 15th August

Stipend: Rs. 6000 per month

Assignment Deliverables

1.⁠ ⁠Research Report on Endangered Crafts

Identify and document 5 Indian crafts that are now practiced by very few remaining artisans.

Include details of at least one artisan per craft, such as: Name, Location, Craft expertise, Contact details (phone/email/social media if available), Any relevant photos or links

2.⁠ ⁠Artisan Database Resources

Compile a list of 5 credible websites/documents/reports that contain artisan data of India (e.g., government directories, craft maps, NGO databases, or academic reports).

3.Along with the assignment submission, we would love to hear about:

  • Any story or personal experience you may have had while working with any artist or artisan cluster of India.
  • A short 1–2 paragraph note on why you are interested in undertaking this assignment.
  • Please attach your updated CV (PDF format preferred).


About the Role

We are looking for a design or research professional, preferably with prior experience in the Indian arts and crafts sector. The key responsibilities will include discovering and researching artisans through both online sources and offline efforts such as visiting craft fairs and exhibitions in and around their city and potentially onboarding artisans who continue to sustain these fading traditions across India. You will also be responsible for interviewing and writing artisan biographies, as well as collaborating with the team during the artisan onboarding process. Additionally, you will contribute to the creation of training and onboarding materials for artisans as needed.


Ideal candidate profile

  • Background in Design, Craft Research, Anthropology, or Cultural Studies
  • Prior experience working with artisans or on documentation projects in the crafts sector
  • Strong research and writing skills
  • Interest in heritage preservation, field documentation, and community-centric storytelling
  • Ability to work independently and deliver within deadlines
  • Available for Aug-Nov 2025
