AOD Melter, 5+ yrs, Ballabgarh

Job Purpose

To independently operate and monitor the AOD for producing stainless steel and other alloy steels by controlling the decarburization, reduction, and refining processes, ensuring safety, quality, and production targets are met.

Qualifications & Skills

• Education

  : Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgy / Mechanical / Production Engineering.

• Experience

  : Minimum 5 + years of hands-on experience in operating AOD in a steel plant.

Key Responsibilities

1. AOD Operations

• Independently operate AOD converters and manage blowing sequences (O, Ar, N).
  
• Monitor and control the metallurgical process parameters (temperature, chemistry, and blowing rates).
  
• Supervise charging of hot metal, scrap, ferroalloys, fluxes, and additives as per the heat schedule.

Heat Management

• Ensure accurate decarburization, reduction, and desulfurization according to steel grade requirements.
  
• Interpret spectrometer/Lab test results and make timely adjustments to the process.

Process Control & Optimization

• Optimize cycle time, minimize consumption of gases, fluxes, and ferroalloys.
  
• Identify and troubleshoot process deviations or equipment issues during melting.

Quality Assurance

• Coordinate with the quality control/lab team to ensure steel chemistry meets required specifications.
  
• Maintain compliance with internal and customer-specific quality standards.

Team Coordination & Supervision

• Supervise and guide AOD crew (operators, helpers, crane operators) during operations.
  
• Coordinate with LRF, CCM, and EAF teams to ensure smooth flow of operations.

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure safe working practices around the converter and allied equipment.
  
• Comply with plant safety protocols, PPE usage, and emergency procedures.
  

8. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain detailed heat records, logbooks, and production reports.
  
• Report delays, breakdowns, and quality deviations to management.
  

• Technical Skills

  :
• Strong understanding of AOD refining processes and metallurgy of stainless/alloy steels.
  
• Proficient in interpreting spectrometer results and adjusting process parameters.
  
• Familiarity with refractory lining behavior and maintenance needs.
  

Working Conditions

• Rotational shift work (Day/Night).
  
• Exposure to high temperatures, noise, and heavy machinery.
  
• On-call availability during critical production runs or shutdowns.
