Job Description

Position Summary:

Manager Spares Procurement

This role is crucial to maintaining operational reliability by ensuring timely availability of high-quality spares at the most cost-effective terms.

Location: Vijayawada.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Procurement Planning:

    Plan and manage procurement of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation spares specifically related to

    ash handling systems

    in thermal power plants.
  • Vendor Development:

    Identify, evaluate, and

    develop new vendors

    to build a robust and reliable supplier base, including OEMs and alternate part manufacturers.
  • Sourcing & Negotiation:

    Conduct competitive sourcing, price negotiations, and vendor performance evaluations to ensure quality, cost, and delivery objectives are met.
  • Technical Evaluation:

    Work with maintenance and engineering teams to understand specifications and ensure technical accuracy in procurement.
  • Inventory Coordination:

    Coordinate with stores and inventory teams to maintain optimum stock levels and reduce procurement lead times.
  • Contract Management:

    Prepare and manage purchase orders, vendor agreements, rate contracts, and AMC (Annual Maintenance Contracts) where applicable.
  • Compliance & Documentation:

    Ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory norms. Maintain all procurement-related documentation and reports.
  • Market Intelligence:

    Keep up-to-date with trends in ash handling system technologies, spare part substitutes, and vendor capabilities.

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering, or related technical field.
  • Minimum

    5+ years

    of experience in

    spares procurement

    , specifically for

    ash handling systems

    in

    thermal power plants

    .
  • Sound technical understanding of spares used in pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical ash handling equipment.
  • Proven ability to

    identify and onboard new vendors

    , including OEMs and local manufacturers.
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience in cost benchmarking and supply chain optimization.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, ERP systems (SAP / Oracle / etc.), and procurement tools.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Experience working with or sourcing from major thermal power utilities and ash handling equipment OEMs.
  • Ability to read technical drawings/specs and translate them into procurement requirements.
  • Exposure to vendor audits and quality assurance processes.
  • Knowledge of inventory control systems and spare parts management best practices
