AGM/DGM - CCM (SMS Operations)

Role Objective:

To lead and manage overall CCM operations to ensure high-quality casting, productivity enhancement, equipment reliability, workforce supervision, and adherence to metallurgical, safety, and operational standards.

Role Responsibilities

• Oversee and control end-to-end CCM operations to achieve consistent, high-quality billets/blooms/slabs.
  
• Monitor casting parameters, tundish temperature, mould behaviour, SEN conditions, and secondary cooling distribution.
  
• Manage mould, tundish, and refractory planning to ensure smooth, interruption-free casting.
  
• Lead defect analysis and corrective/preventive action implementation for quality improvement.
  
• Coordinate cross-functionally with SMS, Mechanical, Electrical, and Quality teams.
  
• Ensure compliance with operational SOPs, safety norms, and metallurgical standards.
  
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives for productivity, yield, and cost optimisation.
  
• Supervise shift operations and workforce deployment.
  
• Lead commissioning, upgrades, maintenance shutdown planning, and reliability improvement.
  
• Prepare and maintain operational reports, downtime analyses, and production records.
  
• Ensure a respectful and inclusive work environment, free from any form of harassment or discrimination.
  
• Ensure compliance with ISO (9001, 14001, 45001 & 50001) and integrated management systems.
  
• Enhance process efficiency, reduce downtime, and continuously improve CCM performance.
  
• Support OH&S objectives through incident reporting, hazard identification, and implementation of corrective actions.
  
• Identify environmental risks, ensure legal compliance, and promote pollution control.
  
• Align operations with the organization’s Energy Policy, focusing on energy optimization and performance improvement.
  

Competencies

• Operational Expertise:

  Casting parameters, tundish & mould management, secondary cooling optimization.

• Technical Expertise:

  Refractory handling, SEN management, automation interfaces, hydraulics & mechanical systems.

• Quality Orientation:

  Defect analysis, metallurgical understanding, continuous improvement.

• Safety Compliance:

  Strong adherence to SMS safety norms, LOTO, and safe casting practices.

• Documentation:

  Accurate reporting of casting performance, downtime, and quality KPIs.

Key Skills

• Expertise in CCM automation, process controls & hydraulic systems.
  
• Strong understanding of billet/bloom/slab quality parameters.
  
• Experience in process optimization, troubleshooting, and maintenance coordination.
  
• Knowledge of SAP or any ERP system – Preferred.
  
• Exposure to reliability improvement, yield optimization, and productivity enhancement.

Knowledge

• B.Tech / Diploma in Metallurgy / Mechanical / Electrical.
  
• 12–20+ years in CCM operations (integrated steel plant preferred).
  
• Strong knowledge of metallurgical principles, casting defects, and quality controls.
  
• Understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, refractory, and automation systems.
  
• Certifications: N/A (if any required, can be added)
