Job Title: Welder – Sponge Iron Unit

Department: Maintenance / Mechanical

Location:Plant : Raipur

Reports To: Mechanical Supervisor / Maintenance In-Charge

**Job Summary:

The Welder is responsible for performing welding and fabrication work related to maintenance, repair, and installation of equipment, pipelines, structures, and machinery in the Sponge Iron unit. The role ensures safe and efficient welding operations to minimize downtime and maintain plant productivity.

Key Responsibilities:

* Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication work on plant equipment, ducts, pipelines, and structural supports.

* Carry out preventive and breakdown maintenance welding tasks as instructed by the maintenance engineer.

* Repair cracks, worn-out parts, and damaged equipment using appropriate welding techniques (Arc, MIG, TIG, Gas cutting).

* Assist in the fabrication and installation of new mechanical systems or modifications.

* Ensure welds meet quality and safety standards as per plant requirements.

* Operate and maintain welding machines, grinders, and gas cutting sets safely.

* Support maintenance shutdown activities and emergency repair work.

* Follow all safety procedures and use PPE during all welding operations.

* Maintain proper housekeeping and record of welding consumables.

* Coordinate with fitters and mechanical technicians for alignment and assembly work.

**Skills & Competencies:**

* Proficiency in Arc, Gas, and MIG/TIG welding.

* Knowledge of materials used in sponge iron plant equipment (e.g., mild steel, alloy steel).

* Ability to read and interpret welding symbols and technical drawings.

* Understanding of plant safety standards and hot work permits.

* Good physical stamina and attention to detail.

Qualification & Experience:

Education: ITI / Diploma in Welder trade from a recognized institute.

Experience:

2–5 years of experience in welding and fabrication work, preferably in a Sponge Iron / Steel / Power Plant.

Working Conditions:

* Plant-based role with exposure to high temperatures, dust, and heavy equipment.

* Work may involve shifts, overtime, and emergency call-ins during breakdowns.
