Water Systems & DM Plant Detailed Engineering Specialist (Not O& M)

Role & responsibilities

A. Detailed Engineering of All Water Systems. Independently design and engineer

(i) Raw Water Intake & Pre-Treatment

• Intake structures, screening systems, clarifiers, flocculators, settling basins
• PSF/SSF, dual media filters, softeners
• Sludge pumps, dosing systems, backwash systems
• Detailed sizing of all equipment based on flow/quality

(ii) Demineralisation (DM) Plant

• Ion Exchange systems: cation, anion, mixed-bed
• RO/UF/EDI systems including membranes and pressure vessels
• Degasifiers, polishing units, neutralization pits
• Regeneration systems, chemical dosing rooms
• Resin sizing, vessel design basis, cycle time, regeneration chemistry
• Water balance and ion balance calculations

(iii) Condensate Polishing Unit (CPU)

• CP bed sizing
• Regeneration schemes
• Backwash and rinse sequences
• Integration with turbine cycle

(iv) Complete Cooling Water System

• Cooling tower makeup, bleed/blowdown
• CW/ACW/CCW system hydraulic design
• Chemical dosing (anti-scalant, biocide, dispersants)
• Cycles of concentration, drift loss, evaporation loss calculations

(v) Effluent Treatment & ZLD

• Neutralization, sludge processing, waste handling
• RO reject handling, evaporation ponds, MEE systems
• Oilwater separators, ETP/WWTP

B. Detailed Engineering Deliverables (Mandatory)

The engineer must produce the following independently:

(i) Process Deliverables

• PFDs (Process Flow Diagrams) all water streams
• P&IDs complete, all equipment, instruments, interlocks
• Water Balance Diagrams
• Mass & Ion Balance Sheets
• Material Selection & Corrosion Study
• Chemical Consumption Calculations
• Design Calculations for pumps, tanks, piping, valves

(ii) Mechanical Deliverables

• Equipment design basis & configuration
• Complete equipment datasheets for:
• Filters
• Softeners
• Ion Exchange vessels
• RO/UF/EDI skids
• Degasifiers
• Chemical dosing pumps
• Storage tanks
• Sludge pumps
• Hydraulic calculations (head loss, velocity, pressure rating)
• Sizing of GRP/CS/SS piping, expansion joints, NPSH checks

(iii) Layouts & Modeling

• Plot plan layouts
• Pump house GA
• DM plant GA
• Piping layout inputs
• Cable tray routing inputs
• Civil loading data (foundations, trenches, pits)

(iii) Documentation

• Technical specifications (for RFQ and procurement)
• BOQs & cost estimates
• Technical bid evaluation sheets (TBE)
• Design review reports
• Vendor document review & approval
• Construction input packages

C. Water Chemistry Expertise

• Boiler feedwater and steam purity standards (ASME, IS)
• Silica control, phosphate dosing, oxygen scavenging
• Cooling water and closed-loop chemistry
• Corrosion/scale inhibitors, biocide selection
• Understanding of how chemistry affects boiler/turbine performance

D. Interdisciplinary Coordination

(i) Work closely with:

• BoilerTurbine team
• Piping
• Civil & Structural
• Electrical
• C&I (instruments for water quality, analyzers)

(ii) Support proposal, site, and commissioning teams

(iii) Attend technical meetings with clients and vendors

Preferred candidate profile :

Required Technical Skills

• Strong command of water chemistry for thermal power plants
• Expertise in DM plant, RO/EDI, media filters, IX units
• Fluency in reading and preparing PFDs, P&IDs
• Hydraulic calculations and pump selection
• Familiarity with AutoCAD; Exposure to 3D design tools helpful
• Understanding of applicable standards:
• IS standards
• ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code
• EN, CPHEEO, WHO
• CPCB/State PCB norms for wastewater

Qualification

• B.Tech / M.Tech in Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering OR
• Mechanical Engineering with strong experience in water systems for power plants

Experience Range

• 8 TO 15 years in:
• Water treatment design
• Power plant water systems
• Industrial utility water systems
• Detailed engineering in an EPC / engineering consultancy
