Job Title: Deputy General Manager EHS (Environment, Health & Safety)

Department:

Job Purpose:

To lead and strengthen the Environment, Health, and Safety management systems at the agrochemical manufacturing facility. The role ensures full compliance with statutory regulations, promotes a culture of safety, and drives continual improvement in environmental and occupational health performance.

Key Responsibilities:

1. EHS Strategy & Leadership

• Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies, systems, and procedures in line with company standards and regulatory requirements.
• Lead EHS planning and risk management for the site.
• Support top management in achieving zero-incident operations.

2. Regulatory Compliance

• Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental and occupational safety laws, such as Factories Act, Pollution Control Board norms, Hazardous Waste Rules, Chemical Accidents Rules, and PESO regulations.
• Liaise with statutory bodies like SPCB, CPCB, MoEFCC, and local authorities for consents, permits, and inspections.
• Maintain updated documentation and timely renewals of all statutory licenses (Air, Water, Hazardous Waste, ETP/STP, etc.).

3. Environment Management

• Oversee ETP/STP operation, waste minimization, and water conservation programs.
• Implement measures for reduction of emissions, effluent, and hazardous waste generation.
• Drive initiatives for sustainability, green chemistry, and resource efficiency.

4. Health & Safety Management

• Conduct risk assessments (HAZOP, HIRA, JSA) and ensure implementation of mitigation plans.
• Monitor and improve process safety management for agrochemical and solvent-based operations.
• Lead incident investigation, root cause analysis, and preventive action planning.
• Ensure adequate fire safety, emergency preparedness, and mock drills.
• Oversee occupational health programs, medical surveillance, and industrial hygiene monitoring.

5. Training & Awareness

• Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees, contract workers, and management staff.
• Build awareness on safe work practices, use of PPE, and emergency response.
• Foster a proactive safety culture across all levels of the organization.

6. Audits & Continuous Improvement

• Conduct internal EHS audits and support third-party and regulatory inspections.
• Monitor KPIs and drive improvement through action plans.
• Benchmark EHS performance and implement global best practices.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Education:

  B.E. / B.Tech in Chemical / Environmental Engineering OR M.Sc. in Environmental Science / Chemistry with a Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Safety (recognized by the State Technical Board / DGFASLI).

• Experience:

  10-18 years of EHS experience in chemical / agrochemical / pesticide / fertilizer manufacturing industries, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

• Certifications:

  ISO 14001, ISO 45001 (OHSMS) internal auditor preferred.

Key Skills & Competencies:

• In-depth knowledge of EHS regulations and statutory compliances applicable to agrochemical manufacturing.
• Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills.
• Hands-on experience with process safety management and emergency handling.
• Analytical and problem-solving mindset.
• Proficient in MS Office, ERP/EHS management software, and report preparation.
