Job Summary:

The Unit Manager is responsible for managing Patient Care Attendants (PCAs) and Housekeeping (HK) staff to ensure smooth operations, clean and safe environments, and high-quality patient support services within the hospital unit.

Key Responsibilities:

1. PCA Management

  • Oversee daily duties and performance of PCAs in the assigned unit.
  • Ensure timely patient assistance—including mobility support, hygiene care, feeding, and comfort care.
  • Prepare and manage PCA duty rosters and shift allocations.
  • Conduct regular rounds to monitor PCA activity, patient feedback, and service quality.
  • Arrange training for PCAs on patient handling, infection control, and safety protocols.

2. Housekeeping (HK) Management

  • Supervise HK staff for proper cleaning, sanitization, and maintenance of the unit.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control guidelines (NABH/JCI standards).
  • Monitor cleanliness levels in patient rooms, corridors, nursing stations, bathrooms, and critical areas.
  • Manage the use and availability of cleaning materials and equipment.
  • Report facility-related issues to maintenance and follow up on resolutions.

3. Operational Responsibilities

  • Maintain hygiene, safety, and service standards across the unit.
  • Ensure smooth coordination between nursing teams, PCAs, and HK staff.
  • Handle escalations from patients, families, or staff regarding service concerns.
  • Conduct daily briefings for PCA and HK teams.
  • Monitor attendance, discipline, and grooming of staff.

4. Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain duty rosters, attendance records, and performance reports.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital operational SOPs, safety standards, and audit requirements.
  • Support quality audits and implement corrective actions when necessary.

5. Team Training & Development

  • Identify skill gaps and arrange training for PCA and HK staff.
  • Mentor staff for improved performance and professional behavior.
  • Conduct induction for newly joined PCA and HK team members.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospital Administration / Nursing / Any relevant field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in hospital operations or supervisory roles.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and people-management skills.
  • Knowledge of housekeeping standards, infection control, and patient care processes.
  • Ability to handle high-pressure situations and multitask effectively.
