Job Title: Thematic Lead –Livelihoods Location: Bhuj, Gujarat Reports to: Executive Director, Sahjeevan Start Date: As soon as possible Compensation: Commensurate with qualifications and experience; in line with industry standards Travel Requirement: Extensive travel across Gujarat, including Saurashtra and other project geographies ____________________________ Organization Overview: Sahjeevan has been working for over three decades to address the challenges faced by pastoral communities, with a strong foundation in Kutch and ongoing expansion into regions like Saurashtra, Rajasthan, the Himalayas, and beyond. Our work spans multiple dimensions, including: @ Livelihood enhancement through marketing of sheep wool and milk from buffalo, cow, camel, and goat @ Conservation of indigenous pastoral breeds @ Restoration of grasslands and improved access to grazing lands ____________________________ Project Context: Sahjeevan’s initiative to revive the sheep wool value chain in Gujarat is aimed at enhancing wool quality over the long term, making it more adaptable to current market dynamics, and ultimately revitalizing the wool industry. The project will focus on improving every stage of the value chain, introducing practical and sustainable practices to optimize outcomes. By implementing these improvements across the entire value chain, we expect not only a significant enhancement in wool quality but also a positive impact on market utilization, while generating additional income for shepherds. Responsibilities 1. Lead the planning and implementation of livelihoods strategies across all project areas 2. Provide strategic direction and build partnerships with government agencies and private sector actors 3. Coordinate with project teams to identify technical and capacity-building needs 4. Monitor project implementation, outputs, and outcomes; ensure alignment with log frames and strategic goals 5. Develop work plans, budgets, reports, and donor proposals 6. Oversee financial management related to project budgets and transactions 7. Conduct regular field visits for monitoring and supportive supervision 8. Ensure project quality meets internal standards and donor requirements 9. Facilitate review meetings and provide technical guidance to field teams 10 Liaise with value chain stakeholders, enterprises, and district-level institutions 11. Build and support strong internal communication and collaboration within the livelihoods team Qualifications # Postgraduate degree in Rural Development, Development Economics, Agriculture, Business, or a related field # Minimum 5 years of experience in livelihoods, value chain interventions or allied thematics, with at least 3 years at the grassroots or mid-management level # Deep understanding of development administration, policy frameworks, and socio-economic factors affecting pastoral and rural livelihoods # Proven experience in managing community institutions, market linkages, and gender integration # Strong verbal and written communication skills in English # Demonstrated ability to work with diverse stakeholders and build strong networks Contact me at aslam@sahjeevan.org or +91-7778887957 Show more Show less
