Position: Test Engineering Manager

Job Summary

Test Engineering Manager

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and mentor a team of test engineers and test technicians in day-to-day operations.
  • Define goals, assign tasks, and evaluate performance of test engineering staff.
  • Ensure training and skill development for new technologies and test methodologies.

Test Strategy & Development

  • Develop comprehensive test strategies for PCBA and box-build assemblies.
  • Design, validate, and deploy test fixtures, software, and systems (ICT, FCT, AOI, X-ray, boundary scan, etc.).
  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to ensure design-for-testability (DFT) and design-for-manufacturing (DFM) compliance.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) and customer-specific test setup and validation.

Process & Equipment Management

  • Manage and maintain test equipment calibration and preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure high equipment uptime and rapid troubleshooting of test-related issues.
  • Implement automation and data collection systems for real-time yield and performance tracking.

Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze test yield data to identify systemic issues and drive root cause analysis.
  • Optimize test processes to reduce test time, improve throughput, and lower cost of test.
  • Lead test-related quality improvement and cost-reduction initiatives.

Customer and Supplier Interface

  • Act as the primary point of contact for customer test engineering requirements.
  • Support audits and technical discussions with OEM clients and vendors.
  • Work closely with external suppliers for test fixture design, software development, and equipment sourcing.

Compliance and Documentation

  • Ensure test procedures comply with relevant standards (IPC, ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 13485, etc., as applicable).
  • Maintain detailed documentation including test plans, validation reports, calibration records, and change control logs.
  • Support internal and external audits related to test processes.

Qualifications & Experience

Education:

  • Bachelors degree (B.E./B.Tech) in Electrical, Electronics, or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Masters degree or certifications in test automation or quality systems (preferred).

Experience:

  • 1215 years of experience in electronics manufacturing or test engineering.
  • Minimum 3–5 years in a leadership or managerial role within an EMS or OEM environment.

Technical Skills:

  • In-circuit testing (ICT), functional circuit testing (FCT), AOI, and boundary scan systems.
  • Familiarity with test automation platforms (NI LabVIEW, TestStand, Python, or C#).
  • Strong understanding of PCBA manufacturing, debugging, and rework.
  • Experience with data analysis and SPC tools for yield improvement.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing standards and quality management systems.
