Role Details:

  • Reports to: Senior Programme Leader Animal Health & Welfare (SPLAHW)
  • Responsible for: Supporting the Animal Health & Welfare head in their role and provide extension, tele-medicine and capacity building services at Veterinary institutions, Animal Fairs and Brooke India (BI) Extended Touch (ET) areas.
  • Location: Head Office at NOIDA-62, with regular travel to major Equine Fairs/ Veterinary institutions, outdoor training locations in India etc. They will be required to travel anywhere in India or abroad as per organisational need.
  • Employment Type: The position shall be on a Fixed-Term Contract (FTC) till the end of this financial year Viz 31 Mar 2026, after which it may be considered for further extension for another two years and beyond based on your performance and organizational requirements, as decided by the management.

Purpose of the Role:

  • To support the working of the Animal Health & Welfare (AHW) department and its head.
  • Provide and manage technical support on extension and capacity building interventions on equine health and welfare at Equine/Animal Fairs/Veterinary Colleges and their affiliated institutions etc, BI ET areas., Veterinarians and Veterinary Para Professionals (VPPs), Local Service Providers (LSP) and equine community members etc.
  • Provide telemedicine services with the aim ensuring sustainable improvements in animal health & welfare and related services and facilities, thereby leading to their improvement and reduction in suffering.
  • Provide managerial and technical support on interventions in Equine Fairs/ Field training/ET-sites/ In-house training by planning and conducting extension and training activities pertaining to AHW and allied services and also to train and augment through government vet services, Veterinary Training Institutes (VTIs), equine fair organisers etc. They shall ensure minimal compromise of welfare of equines congregating at outdoor sites.
  • This position has a critical role in achieving Brookes vision of minimizing the pain and suffering of the working equines in areas of greatest need and achieving sustainable equine health delivery and allied services systems in their areas of operation.
  • The position requires need based flexible approach to field visits and office timings.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Planning, organizing and implementation of extension activities at national/state level which with the Extension and Training Team (ETT), comprising of Master Trainer Farrier (MTF), Master Trainer Animal Health (MTAH) in collaboration with regional programme teams
  • Oversight of ET interventions and capacity building in AHW, including strategic planning and providing support to Senior Veterinary Trainers (SVTs) for the effective execution of welfare activities.
  • Technically lead the Farrier Team (STFs & MTF) and ensure effective implementation of the farriery interventions
  • Lead and manage all vet technical training activities with support of SVTs including those at VTIs.
  • Lead the Tele-medicine team and provide the requisite services.
  • Organise and conduct orientation and induction training of newly recruited BI staff.
  • Assist and support the SPLAHW in the development of proposals and modules focused on improving animal health and welfare through capacity building trainings in VTIs and AHD officials.
  • Facilitate capacity building training programs for vet interns, field veterinarians and VPPs on equine health and welfare and also assist in conducting seminar/workshop focused on OH.
  • Ensure the provision of emergency veterinary services to the needy equines anywhere in India.
  • Identify equine welfare related issues at equine fairs and outdoor training sites issues, plan and implement responses to mitigate these.
  • Organise, coordinate and lead the BI equine welfare activities and support EWPs in equine fairs/outdoor training sites falling in Brooke operational areas. This includes coordination and linkages with local administration, assessment of number of equines at equine fairs and rapid welfare Assessment, ensuring resources are available at fair/outdoor sites.
  • Ensure dissemination of equine welfare messages at equine fairs and outdoor training sites through awareness in support/collaboration with FC team for writing success stories, taking photographs, video coverage arranging media coverage etc.
  • Responsible to track and monitor Ashwa Seva Helpline in coordination with SVTs
  • Collection of related data from various stakeholders like veterinary service providers, equine traders, farrier, hair clippers, medical store keepers, saddler and others and analyse it for future intervention strategies
  • Conduct in-situ training for stakeholders like farrier, veterinary service provider, staff, etc and sensitize the equine owners, traders through various community development tools like games, quiz, etc.
  • Assist & conduct advocacy with animal welfare organizations (NGOs) and government systems to address equine welfare related issues.
  • Ensure health and safety for staff (staff vaccination, protective gears, hygienic food and water for staff, first aid box, logistic arrangement, contact no. of local medical facility, etc.)
  • Preparation of Budget and ensure optimal use of resources in given timeline
  • Monitoring and evaluation of these activities and timely submission of reports
  • Any other duties given by Line manager /HSPPS/CEO

Qualification and Experience

Essential

  1. Degree in Veterinary Science from a University recognised by Veterinary Council of India
  2. Minimum 3 years experience in animal welfare / management practices
  3. Ability of planning and executing short term interventions
  4. Capacity building, monitoring, correcting and upgrading veterinary skills and manage team
  5. Liaising with senior management on the completion of key projects & Experience of developing rapport with stakeholders and interaction with community
  6. Experience of using IEC in effective and planned manner
  7. Knowledge of Participatory approaches
  8. Fluent in verbal and written communication in English & Hindi
  9. Have love for animals and be willing to work for their welfare
  10. Ability to travel and work independently
  11. Knowledge of MS office and be adept in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  12. Team player with strong interpersonal skills, judgment, integrity, humility and a sense of humour

Desirable

  1. Post-graduate degree in Veterinary Extension/ Clinical subjects from a university recognised by Veterinary Council of India/ PG degree/diploma in Social welfare/development
  2. Liaising and networking with government and other agencies for collaborative interventions
  3. Experience across full project cycle or working experience in projects related to animal welfare or husbandry or livelihood

Remuneration is supported by competitive remuneration and benefits package benchmarked to international standards.

INR 12.70 to 14.12 Lakh

Brooke India observes statutory provision of Employees Provident Fund as per eligibility.

There are provisions for Personal Accident Insurance and Medical insurance Child Care allowance, which is gender neutral, pro rata Gratuity as per Social Code 2020 and other benefits as per eligibility, which are over and above the CTC.
