Mechanical Engineer Material Handling Equipment

Location: Project / Office Based

Industry: Mining, Ports, Power Plants, Cement, Bulk Material Handling

Experience: 1020 Years (Engineering & Design Development)

Role Purpose

To undertake engineering design, development, and execution of bulk material handling systems, ensuring technical compliance, safety, cost effectiveness, and timely delivery for EPC / OEM projects across mining, port, power, and cement sectors.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Design

• Design and engineering of bulk material handling systems including:
• Belt conveyors (troughed, pipe conveyors, overland conveyors)
• Stacker, reclaimer, stacker-cum-reclaimer
• Wagon tipplers, ship loaders / unloaders
• Apron feeders, crushers, screens, chutes, bins, hoppers
• Prepare and review:
• Layouts (GA, equipment arrangement, conveyor routing)
• Design calculations (capacity, belt tension, power, chute flow, structural loads)
• Equipment datasheets and technical specifications
• Selection and sizing of mechanical equipment, drives, pulleys, idlers, bearings, gearboxes, couplings, brakes, and VFD systems.

Engineering Development

• Develop optimized engineering solutions considering:
• Space constraints, terrain, and interface conditions
• Maintenance access, safety, and operability
• Cost, constructability, and lifecycle performance
• Support innovation, value engineering, and standardization of designs.

Project & Interdisciplinary Coordination

• Interface with civil, structural, electrical, and instrumentation teams.
• Coordinate with vendors, OEMs, and subcontractors for technical clarifications.
• Participate in design reviews, HAZID / HAZOP, and constructability reviews.

Documentation & Standards

• Ensure designs comply with:
• IS, DIN, CEMA, ISO, ASME, BS standards
• Client specifications and statutory requirements
• Prepare technical documents including:
• Design basis reports
• Engineering deliverables schedules
• Tender and bid engineering documents
• As-built drawings and manuals

Site & Commissioning Support

• Provide engineering support during:
• Fabrication, erection, and installation
• Alignment, commissioning, and performance testing
• Resolve site engineering issues and deviations.

Required Qualifications

• B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering
• Postgraduate qualification is an advantage (not mandatory)

Experience Requirements

• 5–10 years of hands-on experience in:
• Engineering development of material handling systems
• EPC / OEM environment for mining, ports, power, or cement plants
• Experience in large-capacity, long-distance conveyor systems preferred.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of:
• Conveyor design principles and bulk material characteristics
• Drive systems, power calculations, belt dynamics
• Proficiency in:
• AutoCAD (mandatory)
• 3D tools such as SolidWorks / Inventor / Tekla (preferred)
• Conveyor design software (Helix, Sidewinder, or equivalent – advantage)
• Familiarity with SAP / ERP documentation processes is a plus.
