£1228.51 per week (ST1/ST2 level)

Salary: £100,879 - £111,441 per annum (pro rata).

To commence 01/11/2025 Permanent.

10 PA’s Less than full time considered, Mon – Fri Working

We are seeking an enthusiastic Specialist Doctor to join our Hospital at Home team, providing high-quality acute medical care to adults and older people in the comfort of their own homes. This innovative service offers an alternative to hospital admission, delivering hospital-level treatment within a rural community setting.You will work closely with a consultant geriatrician, advanced nurse practitioners, AHPs, and community teams to deliver safe, person-centred care. The post is based within our Hospital at Home hub at the Borders General Hospital but will involve travel across our rural catchment area including spoke offices in Peebles, Hawick, Duns and Kelso.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide medical assessment, diagnosis, and management for acutely unwell adults and older people at home.
  • Lead and support multidisciplinary team working, ensuring safe, evidence-based care.
  • Undertake clinical decision-making, including escalation and admission where required.
  • Contribute to service development and innovation in rural healthcare delivery.
  • Supervise and support junior doctors, medical students, and AHP colleagues.
  • Participate in audit, clinical governance, and continuing professional development.

The Service & Location

Our Hospital at Home service provides hospital-level care at home for conditions such as infections, heart failure, COPD exacerbations, frailty-related illness, and palliative crises. Working in a rural area offers professional variety, strong community links, and the chance to deliver truly holistic care.The board covers a scenic part of Scotland, with excellent outdoor activities, good schools, and affordable housing. There are strong transport links to nearby cities, offering the best of both rural and urban living.

Person Specification (Summary)

  • Full GMC registration and licence to practise.
  • At least 10 years’ post-graduate experience with 6 years’ experience in either general medicine, older peoples medicine or GP.
  • Obtained professional exams either MRCP/MRCGP.
  • Excellent clinical skills in managing acutely unwell adults and older patients.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
