Job Summary:

The Special Educator is responsible for providing individualized support to students with a range of disabilities to help them achieve their academic, social, and emotional potential. This role involves creating and implementing personalized educational plans, providing one-on-one or group instruction, and collaborating with other staff members to support the overall well-being and development of students.

Key Responsibilities:

Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Development:

  • Develop, implement, and review Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities, ensuring that goals and accommodations are met.
  • Modify and adapt lessons, activities, and assessments to meet the diverse needs of students.

Instructional Support:

  • Provide direct instruction in one-on-one, small group, or whole-class settings.
  • Adapt classroom materials, instructional methods, and teaching strategies to support students with various learning needs.

Behavior Management:

  • Implement behavioral interventions and strategies to support positive behavior and academic engagement.
  • Work with students to develop social and emotional skills, encouraging self-regulation and positive interactions.

Collaboration with Staff:

  • Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and administrators to create an inclusive learning environment.
  • Participate in team meetings, professional development, and discussions about student progress.

Assessment and Progress Monitoring:

  • Regularly assess student progress, adjust teaching methods accordingly, and provide feedback to students and parents.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, behavior, and other relevant data.

Support for Families:

  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about their child’s progress, needs, and strategies for supporting learning at home.
  • Provide resources and guidance to families to support their child’s development.

Classroom and Materials Management:

  • Maintain an organized and supportive classroom environment.
  • Ensure that all materials and resources are accessible to students with disabilities.

Professional Development:

  • Stay updated with best practices in special education, new teaching strategies, and assistive technologies.
  • Participate in training, workshops, and seminars to enhance skills and knowledge.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Special Education or a related field (required).
  • Certification:

    Certification in Special Education (depending on location or institution).
  • Experience:

    Previous experience working with children with disabilities is preferred.
