Sme Credit Manager

Job Purpose

To manage and oversee the credit assessment, approval, and portfolio management of SME customers, ensuring high-quality credit underwriting, minimal NPAs, and compliance with internal and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Credit Assessment & Underwriting

• Evaluate creditworthiness of SME borrowers based on financial statements, business performance, and industry outlook.
  
• Conduct detailed financial and cash flow analysis, ratio analysis, and risk assessment.
  
• Prepare credit appraisal notes and recommendations for sanctioning authorities.
  
• Ensure adherence to internal credit policies and regulatory guidelines (RBI, Basel norms, etc.).
  

Portfolio & Risk Management

• Monitor portfolio quality and early warning indicators to detect potential delinquencies.
  
• Regularly review existing SME accounts for credit performance and renewals.
  
• Manage exposure limits and ensure diversification to mitigate concentration risk.
  
• Support collection teams in recovery actions for stressed accounts.
  

Policy & Process

• Assist in developing and refining credit policies, risk rating models, and approval processes.
  
• Maintain updated knowledge of industry trends and regulatory changes affecting SME lending.
  

Stakeholder Management

• Liaise with business teams for client acquisition while maintaining credit discipline.
  
• Coordinate with operations, legal, and compliance teams for smooth credit processing.
  
• Train and mentor junior credit analysts/officers in credit evaluation and documentation.

• In-depth understanding of SME business models and sectoral risks.
  
• Sound knowledge of credit appraisal techniques, regulatory guidelines, and collateral evaluation.
  
• Decision-making ability with strong risk-reward judgment.
  
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  

Qualifications & Experience

• Education:

  MBA (Finance) / CA / CFA or equivalent qualification.

• Experience:

  510 years in credit underwriting or risk management in SME/Business Banking.
• Experience in credit assessment tools and exposure to lending management systems preferred.
