Job Description

A ServiceNow Administrator manages, configures, and maintains the ServiceNow platform for an organization , acting like a "building manager" to ensure all users can efficiently perform tasks by handling user access, system health, workflows, customizations (like forms and reports), integrations, security, and regular platform upgrades, essentially making sure the digital workplace runs smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

User & Security Management:

Creating/managing user accounts, roles, groups, and access controls (ACLs).
Platform Configuration:

Designing forms, creating workflows, setting up business rules, UI policies, and notifications to automate processes.
Maintenance & Support:

Monitoring system health, performing health checks, troubleshooting issues, and managing platform upgrades.
Customization:

Developing reports, dashboards, and customizing the user interface (UI) to meet business needs.
Integration:

Connecting ServiceNow with other enterprise systems.
Data Management:

Handling data import/export and managing service catalog items and configuration items (CIs).

Role Analogy

Think of them as the administrator for a large, digital skyscraper (the ServiceNow platform): they dont necessarily do the work of the companies inside, but they ensure the buildings infrastructure, security, and operations run flawlessly so everyone else can do their jobs effectively.

Distinction from Developer

While an Admin focuses on configuration and upkeep, a Developer often handles more complex coding, scripting, and building new applications or major features, though roles can overlap depending on the company.
