Senior Shield Engineer

Role Summary:

The Senior Shield Engineer will be responsible for leading the design, implementation, and maintenance of shielding and protection systems within the plant to ensure personnel safety, process reliability, and equipment integrity. The role requires deep technical expertise in shielding systems, safety engineering, and compliance with industrial standards. The incumbent will also mentor junior engineers and coordinate with multiple departments to ensure safe and efficient plant operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design & Engineering:

• Lead the design and optimisation of shielding systems (mechanical, acoustic, thermal, or radiation) across plant operations.
• Review and approve technical drawings, design calculations, and specifications.
• Conduct risk assessments and hazard analysis to determine shielding requirements for new and existing installations.
  

• Safety & Compliance:

• Ensure all shielding systems comply with statutory and industry safety regulations (OSHA, ISO, BIS, or equivalent).
• Develop and implement procedures for inspection, testing, and validation of shielding effectiveness.
• Support EHS teams during internal and external audits, providing technical inputs and documentation.
  

• Project Management:

• Oversee shielding-related projects from concept to commissioning including vendor selection, procurement, and execution.
• Prepare project budgets, timelines, and progress reports for management review.
• Coordinate with contractors and OEMs to ensure technical accuracy and quality standards.
  

• Maintenance & Reliability:

• Establish preventive and predictive maintenance programs for shielding systems and components.
• Analyses performance data and implements corrective actions to enhance durability and efficiency.
• Ensure timely repairs and upgrades to maintain continuous plant safety.
  

• Innovation & Improvement:

• Evaluate new materials, coating technologies, and engineering solutions to enhance shielding performance and reduce lifecycle cost.
• Lead technical studies on noise reduction, heat containment, or radiation control based on factory requirements.
  

• Leadership & Mentoring:

• Guide and mentor junior engineers and technicians on shielding design, maintenance, and compliance procedures.
• Conduct technical training sessions for cross-functional teams on shielding best practices and safety protocols.
