Position Overview

XDLINX Space Labs is looking to hire a highly experienced Senior Safety Engineer to join our team. With a minimum of eight years of experience in the space or highly regulated aerospace industry, you will be a subject matter expert responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing our system safety and operational safety programs. You will ensure the safety of our flight hardware, ground support equipment, and personnel throughout the entire product lifecycle, from design and manufacturing to testing and mission operations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and perform comprehensive system safety analyses, Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) to identify and analyse potential failures in launch vehicle components and systems.
• Develop, implement, and maintain the System Safety Program Plan (SSPP) and other critical safety procedures in compliance with industry and regulatory standards (e.g., NASA-STD-8719.13, MIL-STD-882E).
• Work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to identify hazards, assess risks, and define effective mitigation strategies for hardware and software designs.
• Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies and range safety authorities, generating and submitting safety-related documentation to secure necessary mission approvals.
• Lead and conduct root cause analysis (RCA) investigations for any safety-related incidents, mishaps, or close calls, and drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
• Provide safety supervision and expert guidance for all hazardous operations, including propulsion system fueling, high-pressure testing, and integrated system testing.
• Develop and maintain the overall safety case for space systems, providing a robust, data-driven argument for the system's safety to internal and external stakeholders.
• Develop and deliver specialized safety training programs to engineering and operations teams. Mentor junior engineers on best practices in system safety engineering.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical), Occupational Health and Safety, or a related technical discipline

• 8+ years of experience in system safety engineering within the space or highly regulated aerospace industry.
• Extensive experience with safety analysis methodologies (PHA, FHA, FMEA, FTA) and risk management frameworks
• Proven ability to interpret and apply complex safety standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., NASA, FAA, DoD).
• Demonstrated experience in managing complex hazardous operations involving high-pressure systems, propellants, or ordnance.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and present technical information clearly
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a meticulous attention to detail.

Preferred skills

• Relevant professional certifications, such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified System Safety Professional (CSSP)
• Experience with specific space systems, such as launch vehicles, spacecraft propulsion, or ground support systems.
• Proficiency with safety analysis and requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Jama, Enterprise Architect).
• Master's degree in a relevant engineering or safety-related field.
