Job Description

  • Review and approve rolling stock electrical basic and final designs per standards, contract, and project requirements (schematics, wiring, harnessing, earthing/EMC, protection, safety).
  • Finalize electrical subsystems and vendors: traction converters/inverters, traction motors, auxiliary converters, high/low-voltage cabinets, batteries and chargers, TCMS/PACIS, lighting, cab controls, passenger information/CCTV, HVAC electrical drives, and cabling.
  • Define, review, and approve system/component electrical type tests and FAT protocols: insulation/hi-pot, dielectric strength, IP/IK, EMC/EMI, surge/ESD, thermal, vibration, fire/smoke, software/hardware safety (SIL where applicable).
  • Witness and evaluate type tests and FATs: traction converter, traction motor, auxiliary converter, battery systems, lighting, PACIS/TCMS, cab/console, wiring/harness, connectors, and cable tests.
  • Review train-level validation procedures and witness tests focusing on electrical performance: traction/braking performance, energy consumption, regenerative braking, ride-through, train communication network, lighting and emergency power, door control logic, and fail-safe behaviors.
  • Inspect manufacturing/assembly for first-off and serial trainsets: panel/cabinet assembly, harness routing, termination/torque, segregation, EMC practices, software/firmware version control, labeling, and quality traceability.
  • Oversee electrical commissioning and site testing: static checks, functional tests, HV/LV energization, train control/diagnostics, brake command interfaces, door/HVAC power-up, and resolution of punch items.
  • Lead electrical interface management and integration with other rail systems: traction power/OHE/third rail interface limits, signalling/ATP-ATO power and I/O interfaces, PSD door controls, on-board networks, earthing/bonding, and SOD-related electrical clearances.
  • Coordinate with client/stakeholders on electrical design changes, concessions, non-conformances, and configuration control; drive timely approvals and risk mitigation.
  • Prepare and submit electrical documentation to authorities and client for trials/clearances; provide technical responses and compliance evidence.
