We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented VDI Engineer to join our infrastructure team supporting a highly regulated financial services environment. This role is responsible for architecting, deploying, and managing a secure, scalable, and high-performing VDI infrastructure, ensuring optimal user experience and operational efficiency, including User workspaces in Azure VMware solution (AVS) and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD).The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of Azure VDIs and thrives in a high-security, audit-intensive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, deploy, and manage enterprise-grade VDI infrastructure in Azure VMware solution (AVS) and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD).
- Administer VDI functions including:
- Create, customize, and maintain master images for VDI environments on both AVD and AVS, including application packaging and patching.
- Optimize images for performance, security, and compliance.
- Apply and validate OS and application patches with change management policies.
- Continuously monitor VDI performance and utilization, making necessary adjustments to ensure optimal user experience and planning for future capacity needs within Azure.
- Design and implement backup strategies for VDI systems.
- Develop and test disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity.
- Analyze usage trends and forecast future capacity needs.
- Recommend infrastructure upgrades and scaling strategies.
- Implement and maintain security measures within the VDI environment, leveraging Azure's native security features to ensure compliance with Information Security standards.
- Work closely with central technology teams, including network, server, and security, to ensure seamless integration of VDI solutions with other native Azure services.
- Evaluate and test new software patches and updates ensuring compatibility and stability before deployment.
- Troubleshoot issues such as memory leaks, disk contention or performance bottlenecks.
- Lead ad-hoc projects to enhance the VDI infrastructure, including new feature implementations, system migrations, and optimization efforts within the Azure ecosystem.
- Support compliance, risk, and audit teams by producing logs, access reports, and detailed documentation.
- Develop and maintain thorough operational documentation including SOPs, configuration baselines, and audit evidence
Qualifications:
- 6+ years of experience in VDI and system administration including VMware Horizon.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with Azure VMware solution (AVS) and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), including setup, configuration, and performance tuning.
- Strong familiarity with backup, disaster recovery for VDI images.
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks relevant to financial services (e.g., SOX, GLBA, PCI-DSS) and experience preparing for audits
- Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation of server tasks and policy deployments
- Strong understanding of networking, storage, and virtualization technologies.
Preferred Certifications:
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
