Senior Engineer - BMS System Design and Validation (Li-ion)

Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Engineer to lead the design, testing, and validation of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) tailored for Commercial and Industrial (C&I) applications. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of electrical system design, power electronics, energy storage technologies, control systems, and grid integration. This role involves working cross-functionally with R&D, product management, manufacturing, and field services to deliver robust, safe, and high-performance BESS solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

System Design & Architecture:

• Lead the design and development of BESS system architecture for C&I applications (100 kW multi-MW range).
• Specify and integrate system components including batteries, PCS (power conversion system), EMS (Energy Management System), HVAC, fire suppression, and communication interfaces.
• Develop single-line diagrams (SLDs), control schematics, and functional block diagrams.
• Ensure compliance with UL, IEC, IEEE, NFPA, NEC, and other relevant standards.

Testing & Validation:

• Define and execute test plans for system validation, FAT (Factory Acceptance Test), and SAT (Site Acceptance Test).
• Perform or supervise electrical, thermal, functional, and safety testing of prototypes and production units.
• Develop automated testing scripts and setups where applicable.
• Troubleshoot performance or integration issues and recommend corrective actions.

Product Development & Optimization:

• Collaborate with firmware/software, hardware, and mechanical teams to optimize overall system performance and reliability.
• Support the development of technical documentation including specifications, test reports, user manuals, and certification.
• Implement continuous improvement strategies based on test data, customer feedback, and field performance.

Project & Stakeholder Management:

• Support proposal development with technical inputs (BOM, specifications, sizing).
• Work closely with procurement, manufacturing, and field engineering teams to ensure smooth handoffs and deployments.
• Provide engineering support for customer inquiries, site commissioning, and after-sales service.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Energy Systems, or related field.
• 4+ years of experience in energy storage, renewable energy, or power systems, with at least 3 years in BESS system design and testing.
• Solid understanding of lithium-ion battery systems, PCS/inverters, control systems, and grid interconnection.
• Experience with electrical simulation and CAD tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, AutoCAD Electrical).
• Familiarity with UL9540, UL1741, NFPA 855, IEEE 1547, and other industry codes and standards.
• Proficient in test instrumentation and data acquisition systems.

Preferred Skills:

• Hands-on experience with BESS commissioning and diagnostics.
• Experience working with SCADA, EMS, or microgrid controllers.
• Knowledge of thermal management, fire suppression, and enclosure design.
• Certifications (e.g., IEC, CE, UL 9540 training) are a plus.
