Job Description

Senior Design Enginee r - Stormwater & Flood Management Key Responsibilities: Lead Stormwater & Flood Management Projects: Spearhead the design and development of stormwater management systems (e.g., drainage systems, retention ponds, flood mitigation infrastructure) and flood risk management solutions, ensuring they are efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective. Hydrological& Hydraulic Modelling: Oversee and execute advanced hydrological and hydraulic modelling to assess flood risks, system performance, and watershed behaviors using industry-standard software (e.g., HEC-RAS, SWMM, Storm CAD, Hydro CAD, and other modelling tools), clients, municipal authorities, contractors, and regulatory bodies. Ensure clear communication of design progress, challenges, and solutions, and manage expectations throughout the project lifecycle. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure designs meet local, state, and federal regulations regarding stormwater management, flood risk mitigation, and environmental protection. Secure all necessary permits and approvals for projects. Project Leadership & Management: Manage multiple stormwater and flood management projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards. Lead a team of engineers, coordinating the design, analysis, and implementation of projects. Sustainable & Resilient Design: Integrate Low Impact Development (LID) principles, Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS), and climate-resilient solutions into designs to enhance the sustainability and long-term performance of stormwater systems. Mentorship & Training: Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers, fostering their professional development and ensuring high standards of work. Risk Assessment & Flood Studies: Lead flood risk assessments, environmental impact studies, and floodplain mapping, ensuring designs are adaptable to changing climate conditions and meet flood risk reduction goals. Quality Assurance & Documentation: Review and approve all design documentation, including calculations, drawings, feasibility studies, and technical reports, ensuring high-quality and compliant outputs. Site Supervision & Inspection: Conduct site visits for project assessments, inspections, and to ensure adherence to design specifications during construction phases. Required Skills and Qualifications: Bachelors degree in civil engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. Masters degree and professional certifications such as PE professional Engineer), CEng (Chartered Engineer) are highly desirable. Proficiency in hydrological and hydraulic modelling software (e.g., HEC-RAS, SWMM, Storm CAD, Hydro CAD, Info Works ICM, or similar tools). In-depth knowledge of stormwater management design principles, floodplain management, drainage systems, and flood risk assessment. Strong understanding of environmental regulations, local government standards, and best practices for stormwater management and flood risk mitigation. Advanced experience in project management, including budgeting, scheduling, and managing cross-functional teams. Ability to lead, train, and mentor junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment. Expertise in preparing technical reports, design calculations, and feasibility studies for stormwater and flood management projects. Ability to handle complex technical issues and develop innovative, cost-effective solutions for clients. Experience: Minimum 5-7 years of experience in stormwater management, flood risk mitigation, or water resources engineering. A minimum of 3-5 years in a senior or leadership role managing design projects and leading a team of engineers. Proven experience managing large-scale projects from concept through design and implementation, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and regulations. Track record of collaborating with municipalities, government agencies, and private clients to develop and implement effective flood management and stormwater control solutions. Strong experience working on multidisciplinary teams and coordinating project activities between engineering, construction, and environmental teams.
