SOC Analyst — Intern/Trainee

Role Summary

Operate in a production SOC with prior exposure to alert triage and incident handling. Comfortable with cloud-native logs and controls; executes playbooks confidently while improving detections and documentation quality.



Key Responsibilities

  • Triage EDR/SIEM/Email/WAF alerts; enrich with CTI; escalate per runbooks.
  • Investigate cloud events (AWS CloudTrail/GuardDuty/Security Hub), identity anomalies, and endpoint telemetry.
  • Own phishing triage, malicious attachment/URL analysis, and user comms templates.
  • Draft incident timelines, collect evidence, and support forensics preservation (hashing, chain-of-custody).
  • Recommend rule tuning and help reduce false positives; maintain shift handovers.


Required Skills

  • Hands-on with at least one SIEM (Elastic/Splunk/Chronicle) and one EDR/XDR (SentinelOne/CrowdStrike).
  • Comfort with AWS basics: IAM events, VPC flow logs, CloudTrail, GuardDuty findings.
  • Querying skills: KQL/ElasticQL/SPL or SQL; regex fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of MITRE ATT&CK, phishing indicators, and sandboxing basics.


Nice-to-Have

  • SOAR exposure, basic PCAP analysis, email header analysis, o365/Google Workspace signals.
  • Security+ / CySA+ / AZ-500 / AWS Cloud Practitioner (or projects demonstrating equivalent skill).


Conversion Metrics

  • SLA adherence, reduced mean time to triage, documentation completeness, quality of suggested tuning, team work.
