Job Title: Unit Head Retail Department

About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Unit Head to lead our Retail Department. The role involves complete business ownership, including strategy, planning, sales leadership, customer management, and team development. This position is part of the company’s leadership team and reports directly to the Managing Director.

Key Responsibilities

1. Business & P&L Management

  • Lead end-to-end business planning, execution, and performance tracking.
  • Develop annual business plans and provide regular performance updates to the MD.
  • Monitor department KPIs through weekly, monthly, and quarterly reviews.

2. Sales & Customer Leadership

  • Drive revenue growth from existing customers.
  • Acquire new customers in line with department targets.
  • Promote and sell strategic FMCG products across markets.
  • Ensure high customer satisfaction, engagement, and service quality.
  • Plan and execute marketing, lead generation, and business development initiatives.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key accounts.

3. People Leadership

  • Lead, motivate, and mentor team members to achieve department goals.
  • Identify and groom high-potential talent within the department.
  • Support HR in hiring and employee engagement activities.
  • Maintain positive employee satisfaction and a productive team environment.

4. Strategic Leadership

  • Stay updated on retail and FMCG industry trends.
  • Develop annual department-level growth strategies and present to leadership.
  • Contribute to company-wide strategy formulation.
  • Conduct learning/training sessions related to industry updates and sales modules.

5. Culture Building

  • Promote a culture of transparency, accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Encourage teamwork, collaboration, and a high-performance mindset.

Key Skills & Competencies

Mandatory Skills

  • Strong leadership and people management capabilities.
  • In-depth understanding of FMCG products and retail sector.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage and develop dealer/distributor networks.
  • Strong customer engagement and relationship-building skills.

Desirable Skills

  • Exposure to cross-functional business processes.
  • Knowledge of retail market trends, competition, and growth opportunities.
  • Experience in designing sales/marketing modules.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities.

Education

  • Graduate from a reputed institution.
  • MBA/Management qualification preferred.

Experience

  • 10–12 years of experience in Retail/FMCG sales.
  • Minimum 9 years in FMCG sales with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Certifications/training in the retail sector will be an added advantage.
