Safety Officer

1. General Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with all

  statutory safety laws

  , company policies, and

  IATF/ISO/IMS standards

  .
• Implement and monitor the

  Occupational Health & Safety Management System (OHSMS)

  in line with

  ISO 45001

  requirements.
• Conduct regular

  safety inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits

  to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
• Maintain and update all

  safety documentation

  (SOPs, checklists, work permits, training records, PPE records, etc.) required for

  IMS audits

  .
• Ensure all areasproduction, maintenance, fabrication, and loading/unloading—adhere to safety standards.

2. Audit & Compliance (Customer / IATF / ISO / IMS)

• Prepare and present

  safety compliance reports

  and documents during

  customer and certification audits

  .
• Coordinate with

  Quality, Environment, and HR departments

  for integrated management system (IMS) documentation.
• Ensure all safety records (incident reports, training attendance, inspection checklists) are

  properly updated and retrievable

  for audits.
• Implement and monitor

  corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)

  raised during internal or external audits.
• Act as a

  liaison officer

  with auditors for any safety-related queries or site verifications.

3. Plant Safety Management

• Conduct

  daily safety rounds

  in production, furnace, rolling mill, and maintenance areas.
• Ensure the proper use of

  PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)

  and maintain sufficient stock levels.
• Verify that

  Lockout-Tagout (LOTO)

  and

  work permit systems

  are being followed during maintenance or confined space work.
• Oversee

  fire safety systems

  , emergency exits, and ensure firefighting equipment is inspected regularly.
• Supervise

  hot work, working at height, and material handling

  operations for compliance with safety standards.

4. Training & Awareness

• Conduct

  toolbox talks, safety induction, and refresher training

  for employees and contract workers.
• Arrange

  mock drills

  for fire, gas leaks, and other emergency scenarios.
• Promote a

  “Safety First” culture

  by organizing awareness campaigns, safety posters, and monthly safety meetings.

5. Incident & Risk Management

• Investigate

  accidents, near misses, and unsafe acts

  ; identify root causes and implement preventive measures.
• Maintain and update the

  Accident/Incident Register

  and report findings to management.
• Conduct

  risk assessments (HIRA / JSA)

  for all critical operations.

6. Coordination & Reporting

• Report safety performance, observations, and action status to the

  Plant Head / Safety Head

  .
• Coordinate with

  maintenance, production, and HR

  teams for implementing safety improvements.
• Prepare

  monthly safety performance reports

  including KPIs (e.g., near-miss ratio, LTIFR, audit findings).

7. Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities for

  safety process improvement

  and implement

  kaizen

  initiatives.
• Review and update

  SOPs, work instructions, and hazard controls

  in coordination with IMS team.
• Ensure

  emergency preparedness

  and participate in

  management review meetings

  related to IMS.

8. Documentation for IMS / IATF / ISO

• Maintain records for:
• Safety induction & training logs
• Risk assessments (HIRA, JSA)
• Incident investigation reports
• Fire equipment inspection & calibration reports
• PPE issue records
• Safety meeting MOMs
• Internal audit reports and CAPA status
• Ensure that all safety documents align with

  ISO 45001

  ,

  , and

  IATF 16949

  documentation structure.
