Position Overview

The Application Engineer (Robot) will be responsible for programming, integration, and operation of additive manufacturing systems incorporating robotic technologies for metallic component fabrication. This role requires strong technical expertise in hands-on experience with leading robot platforms for material handling and automation in additive workflows, and the ability to mentor and guide a team of additive manufacturing engineers. The ideal candidate will play a key role in executing high-impact 3D metal printing and hybrid manufacturing projects across industries

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, installation, and commissioning of additive manufacturing projects involving 3D metal printers, robotic arms, and hybrid systems.
  • Operate and program major robotic platforms such as Yaskawa, Fanuc, ABB, and KUKA for tasks like material printing and post-processing, and integration with additive equipment.
  • Simulate and validate robotic movements in additive environments using tools like Robotmaster, MotoSim, Roboguide, KUKA Sim, etc., to optimize build processes and tool paths.
  • Interface and integrate robots with additive manufacturing machines, PLCs, CNCs, vision systems, and sensors for seamless workflows.
  • Select appropriate robot models and end-effectors based on payload, precision, reach, and application requirements in 3D printing.
  • Develop technical documentation including additive process analysis, robotic programming guides, operating manuals, and compliance reports.
  • Train, mentor, and supervise junior additive manufacturing engineers throughout project execution, with a focus on robotics integration.
  • Ensure project deliverables meet quality, safety, and timeline standards in additive manufacturing contexts.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical, mechanical, materials, and software engineering teams.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in

    Mechatronics, Robotics, Mechanical, or Production/Manufacturing Engineering

    .
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in

    industrial robotics and automation

    .
  • Proven experience in commissioning and troubleshooting robotic systems in manufacturing environments.
  • Proficiency in programming robotic arms (e.g., TP programming, KRL, RAPID, INFORM).
  • Strong knowledge of

    robot safety standards

    and system integration best practices.
  • Experience working with automation tools, sensors, and vision systems.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites for installation and support.

Preferred (Not Mandatory)

  • OEM training certifications from Fanuc, ABB, Yaskawa, or KUKA.
  • Certification in Functional Safety (e.g., TV SD).
  • Familiarity with Industry 4.0 solutions and digital twin technologies.
