Purified Water (PW) System Operator

Job Summary:

The Purified Water (PW) Operator is responsible for the daily operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the purified water generation, storage, and distribution system used in pharmaceutical manufacturing. The role ensures continuous supply of water meeting current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), pharmacopeial standards (USP, EP), and internal quality specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate and monitor the Purified Water Generation and Distribution system including pre-treatment, RO (reverse osmosis), EDI (electrodeionization), and storage & distribution loops.
• Perform routine checks and inspections of system parameters (e.g., flow rate, conductivity, temperature, pressure, TOC).
• Collect water samples from various points (user points, return loops, tank outlets) for microbiological and chemical testing as per SOPs.
• Maintain accurate and real-time documentation/logs of all operational data, alarms, deviations, and maintenance activities.
• Ensure water system operates within defined parameters and initiate corrective actions for any deviation.
• Monitor and respond to alarms via SCADA/BMS systems and coordinate with engineering and quality departments as necessary.
• Perform sanitization (thermal or chemical) of the PW system as per the defined schedule and procedure.
• Support in system qualification/validation activities (IQ/OQ/PQ) and periodic requalification.
• Assist in root cause analysis and implementation of CAPA in case of system failure or out-of-specification events.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and GMP requirements for water systems.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of water plant areas in compliance with pharmaceutical standards.

Qualifications:

• Education: ITI / Diploma / B.Sc. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or relevant field.
• Experience: 2–5 years in operating purified water or utility systems in a regulated pharmaceutical (GMP-compliant) environment.
• Certifications (Preferred): Training in cGMP, water system operation, or clean utility systems.

Required Skills & Competencies:

• Good understanding of pharmaceutical-grade water systems and equipment (RO, EDI, UF, UV, ozone sanitization).
• Familiarity with pharmacopoeial standards (e.g., USP <1231>, EP) for water for pharmaceutical use.
• Knowledge of SCADA/BMS systems used for monitoring and control.
• Strong adherence to documentation practices (ALCOA+ principles).
• Ability to work in shifts and respond to utility emergencies.

Work Environment:

• Cleanroom-adjacent utility areas.
• Physically active role requiring standing, climbing, and occasional heavy lifting.
• Exposure to water treatment chemicals and mechanical systems.
