Role & responsibilities

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Project Manager with a civil engineering background to oversee the end-to-end planning, execution, and delivery of our upcoming Vels High Tech Campus in Thiruvanmiyur. The ideal candidate will have prior experience managing educational institution projects, with strong expertise in construction supervision, procurement, vendor coordination, and site management.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Project Planning & Execution

  • Lead and manage the full lifecycle of campus development projects from design to completion.
  • Collaborate with architects, consultants, and contractors to ensure designs align with institutional requirements and standards.
  • Prepare detailed project schedules, budgets, and progress reports for management review.

2. Construction Management

  • Oversee daily on-site activities, ensuring adherence to approved plans, timelines, and safety standards.
  • Monitor quality control and ensure construction meets institutional and statutory specifications.
  • Review and verify BOQs, drawings, and work progress before approvals.

3. Procurement & Vendor Coordination

  • Manage tendering processes, vendor selection, and material procurement in coordination with the purchase team.
  • Negotiate contracts and monitor vendor performance to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Coordinate with multiple vendors, suppliers, and service providers for civil, electrical, HVAC, interiors, and landscaping works.

4. Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure all statutory approvals, environmental clearances, and local authority permissions are obtained.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of contracts, progress reports, and payment schedules.

5. Stakeholder Communication

  • Act as a key liaison between management, architects, contractors, and internal departments.
  • Provide periodic project status updates and highlight key risks and mitigation plans.

Preferred candidate profile

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • 8–15 years of experience in construction project management, preferably in educational institutions, universities, or large campus developments.
  • Proven ability to manage end-to-end project delivery — from design and tendering to completion and handover.
  • Strong vendor management, budgeting, and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and AutoCAD.
