1. Job Purpose

production

2. Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute daily/weekly fabrication schedules for SS 304 pipe spools.
  • Assign manpower and monitor activities such as cutting, fit-up, welding, grinding, pickling, and passivation.
  • Review fabrication drawings, isometrics, spool drawings, and BOM/MTO.
  • Ensure proper material identification, traceability, and handling of SS 304/304L.
  • Track progress and prepare daily production reports, weld logs, and spool status updates.
  • Coordinate with stores for timely availability of pipes, fittings, welding consumables, and purging accessories.
  • Ensure optimum utilization of machines (cutting, bending, rolling, welding).
  • Conduct in-process and final inspections for fit-up, welding, alignment, and dimensions.
  • Verify adherence to WPS, PQR, and welder qualifications (GTAW/SMAW for SS 304).
  • Conduct visual inspection (VT) and coordinate for NDT activities (RT, PT, UT, MT).
  • Maintain welding records, spool traceability, inspection test plans (ITP), and QC documentation.
  • Ensure correct process for

    pickling, passivation, and cleanliness

    of stainless-steel spools.
  • Identify defect before offering to QC and drive corrective/preventive actions.

Technical Knowledge Required

  • SS 304 / 304L material properties, heat control, and welding metallurgy.
  • Pipe size, schedule, fittings (elbows, tees, reducers, stub ends), and fabrication standards.
  • Welding parameters for GTAW root & fill passes.
  • Interpretation of isometrics, GA drawings, P&IDs, and weld maps.
  • Dimensional tolerance checks, spool fit-up techniques, and purge requirements.

. Safety Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with welding and fabrication safety norms.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and enforce PPE usage.
  • Monitor safe handling and storage of stainless-steel materials.

. Coordination & Reporting

  • Work closely with production, QA/QC, planning, purchase, and dispatch departments.
  • Report daily production and quality status to Planning manager.
  • Assist in preparation of final documentation dossiers and handover packs.

. Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of SS 304 spool fabrication and welding processes.
  • Good inspection, reporting, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to handle manpower and production workflows.
  • Knowledge of ASME, ASTM, and NDT requirements.
  • Problem-solving attitude and strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Office, and basic reporting.

4. Qualifications

  • Diploma / BE / B.Tech in Mechanical / Production Engineering.
  • 3–5 years of experience in

    stainless steel pipe spool fabrication

    (SS 304/304L).
  • Experience in both

    production and QA/QC

    roles is essential.

5. Additional Advantages

  • Experience in skid fabrication, process piping, or modular fabrication.
  • Knowledge of hydrotesting and pneumatic, pacification testing.
  • Understanding of ASME Section IX welding requirements.
