Production Engineer

Department:

Role Objective:

To execute and monitor production activities, ensure adherence to quality and safety standards, achieve production targets, and support continuous improvement across sheet metal, injection moulding, wiring harness, or MCB assembly operations.

Common Responsibilities (Applicable to All Sections)

• Execute daily and monthly production plans as per customer requirements.
  
• Monitor shift-wise production, ensure zero material shortage, and manage manpower allocation.
  
• Ensure all operations follow SOPs, Work Instructions, and safety guidelines.
  
• Track and control process parameters, production output, rejection, rework, and downtime.
  
• Coordinate with Quality, Maintenance, Planning, and Stores for seamless production flow.
  
• Implement lean initiatives, 5S, Kaizen, and process improvements.
  
• Prepare daily production reports and update ERP/MIS systems.
  

Section-Wise Responsibilities

(Choose the section based on requirement)

A. Sheet Metal Production Engineer

• Supervise sheet metal processes: shearing, punching, bending, welding, grinding, and assembly.
  
• Ensure proper tool/die/fixture availability and monitor tool conditions.
  
• Maintain part dimensional accuracy and ensure stage-wise quality checks.
  
• Coordinate with maintenance for machine breakdown and preventive maintenance.
  

B. Injection Moulding – Production Engineer

• Monitor injection moulding machines, mould changeovers, cycle time, and process settings.
  
• Ensure mould health, cooling circuits, and part ejection mechanisms are functioning properly.
  
• Coordinate with toolroom for mould issues, preventive maintenance, and modifications.
  
• Ensure OK parts through visual inspection, dimension checks, and quality parameters.
  

C. Wiring Harness – Production Engineer

• Supervise cut-length, crimping, stripping, termination, and harness routing activities.
  
• Ensure correct usage of connectors, terminals, sleeves, and ferrules.
  
• Validate harness layouts, continuity checks, and connector locking.
  
• Minimize wiring errors and implement mistake-proofing (Poka-Yoke).
  

D. MCB / Electrical Assembly – Production Engineer

• Manage assembly operations for DBs, electrical sub-assemblies, or MCB-based units.
  
• Ensure correct component fitment, torque tightening, wiring, and functional testing.
  
• Validate SLD adherence, wiring diagrams, and electrical parameters.
  
• Ensure final product dispatch readiness as per customer standards.
  

Skills & Competencies

• Strong technical knowledge of the relevant section (Sheet Metal / Moulding / Harness / Electrical).
  
• Understanding of production planning, OEE, cycle time reduction, and quality controls.
  
• Knowledge of root cause analysis tools (5 Why, Fishbone, PDCA).
  
• Strong communication, coordination, and team-handling skills.
  
• Knowledge of ERP/SAP for production entries and material tracking.
  
• Good command over MS Excel for reporting.
  

Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma / BE in Mechanical, Electrical, Production, or related engineering field.
  
• 2 - 6 years of experience in relevant production operations.
  
• Experience in sheet metal / moulding / wiring harness / MCB assembly will be an added advantage.
