Production Engineer (Java support)

Job Responsibilities

• Monitor and support our production systems — own the L2 support layer, ensuring uptime and quick incident response.
• Collaborate with development teams to analyse root causes, provide immediate fixes or workarounds, and drive long-term solutions.
• Maintain runbooks, diagnostic tools, and alerting systems to ensure quick identification and resolution of recurring issues.
• Investigate logs, metrics, and system-level anomalies using observability tools to provide in-depth insights into system behaviour.
• Ensure all escalated production issues are well-documented, prioritized, and tracked to closure.
• Write simple scripts and automations to reduce manual tasks and improve operational efficiency.
• Bring new ideas — whether it's about better logging practices, smarter alerting, or simplifying a runbook. Innovation is a muscle we want everyone to build.
• Contribute to deployment validations and post-release monitoring to ensure smooth rollouts.

Skills Needed

• 1–3 years of hands-on experience supporting production systems or working in backend/frontend engineering roles.
• Strong foundation in Java and Spring Boot for debugging backend APIs.
• Basic experience with MongoDB; able to analyse queries and data issues.
• Exposure to React.js and browser debugging tools is a plus.
• Familiarity with logging and monitoring tools like Papertrail, Sentry, ELK, Datadog, Grafana, or similar.
• Eager to take ownership of problems and learn from incidents — a growth mindset is key.
• Strong communicator who can collaborate with multiple teams.
