Product Design Engineer (Toys & Hobby Kits) Location: Remote Employment Type: Freelance / Contractual Industry: Toys, Hobby Products, DIY Kits About Us At Hobbitoi, we design and manufacture collectible toys, DIY hobby kits, and model kits for creators of all ages. What You Will Do As a Product Design Engineer, you will play a key role in developing innovative toy components and hobby kits from concept to manufacturing, and translating ideas into fully engineered, prototyping and production-ready parts. Key Responsibilities: Create detailed 2D drawings and 3D CAD models for toys and hobby products. Design for 3D printing, CNC, laser cutting, and small-batch injection molding. Optimize designs for part fit, durability, safety, and playability (e.g. snap-fit, joints, moving parts). Generate CAM files, slicer outputs, and basic G-code as needed for prototyping. Collaborate on prototypes and iterate designs based on testing feedback. Maintain organized design files, version control, and basic technical documentation. What We are Looking For 2+ years of experience in product or mechanical design (toy or hobby industry is a big plus). Proficiency in CAD tools such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Rhino, or FreeCAD. Familiarity with CAM tools or slicers like Cura, PrusaSlicer, or Kiri:Moto. Understanding of design for 3D printing, CNC machining, and plastic part manufacturing. Bonus: Experience with free/open-source tools like FreeCAD, Blender, or Onshape. Good eye for detail, functional aesthetics, and efficient design for prototyping.
