Principal Software Engineer - OpenShift

About the Job:

OpenShift Container Platform is Red Hats premier container initiative, which oversees multiple product lines. It includes a container optimized Linux based operating system called Red Hat CoreOS and an orchestration PaaS framework called OpenShift based on Kubernetes.

The OpenShift Engineering team is looking for a Software Engineer to join us in Pune, India. In this role, you will work as part of a team, building the next-generation installation and management technology for the Red Hat OpenShift. Youll be a key member of our OpenShift team and focus on building world-class technologies demonstrating Red Hats thought and market leadership in hybrid cloud, system engineering, and Kubernetes management. As a Software Engineer, you will be expected to work in an Agile environment to help keep our products and services competitive with the ever-changing landscape that is containers. • Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance to teams working on Red Hat OpenShift, ensuring alignment with product vision and best practices.
• Drive the delivery of key OpenShift features by contributing to both upstream and downstream Red Hat OpenShift projects, fostering innovation and technical excellence.
• Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, including end-users, stakeholders, and the open-source community.
• Mentor and coach other engineers on the OpenShift team, fostering their technical growth and development.
• Develop and deliver high-quality features and bug fixes for Kubernetes and OpenShift components within an agile development team and a global organization.
• Champion product quality through proactive participation in peer code reviews, ensuring adherence to coding standards and best practices.
• Contribute to and maintain continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines to ensure rapid and reliable software releases.
• Serve as a key point of escalation for the implementation of critical customer-driven features and the resolution of high-priority bugs.
• Demonstrate awareness and leverage AI tools (like Claude, Cursor, etc.) throughout the product development lifecycle, exploring their potential to improve efficiency, code quality, and innovation.

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent work experience
• Minimum 8 years of experience with software development with proven track record of working on enterprise level projects
• Experience writing code in any of the programming languages, including Python, Go, C/C++
• Demonstrated working knowledge of container technologies, podman and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of Git, GitHub, and/or JIRA is required
• Experience utilizing major cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Microsoft Azure.
• Familiarity with DevOps principles, including Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) and automation practices.
• Demonstrated proficiency in problem-solving, coupled with innovative thinking and a strong customer-centric approach

• Proficiency in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), CoreOS, Fedora, or Red Hat OpenShift
• Previous experience contributing to open source community software development
• Follow the Kubernetes community and proactively lead the implementation of important improvements from the project in our product
• Familiarity with enterprise application development, utilizing agile or scrum methodologies, and competence with various observability tools for monitoring, logging, and profiling is desirable.
