Job Description

As a Principal Database Administrator, you will lead and provide guidance on the build and operation of our Database platforms supporting our IT estate to enhance the availability, performance, reliability, and security of solutions and platforms. This includes but is not limited to Oracle, SQL Server (On-Premise and Cloud), DB2, and others as defined by our product roadmaps. You will be responsible for various key accountabilities such as: - Providing technical expertise to enable the correct application of operational procedures. - Using infrastructure management tools to determine load and performance statistics. - Contribute to the planning and implementation of maintenance and installation work, including building and configuring infrastructure components in virtualized environments. - Implementing agreed infrastructure changes and maintenance routines. - Configuring tools to automate the provisioning, testing, and deployment of new and changed infrastructure. In addition, you will be leading the assessment, analysis, planning, and design of release packages, liaising with business and IT partners on release scheduling and communication of progress, conducting post-release reviews, and ensuring release processes and procedures are applied. You will engage with technical design and project managers to ensure correct products are produced in a timely fashion, evaluate the quality of project outputs against agreed service acceptance criteria, and plan the installation and testing of new versions of system software. Furthermore, you will be responsible for identifying and resolving network problems, carrying out network maintenance tasks, overseeing system installations/decommissioning, monitoring emerging technologies, providing advice on methods and tools adoption, maintaining specialist knowledge in identifiable specialisms, supporting supplier management, and database administration. Key Skills required for this role: - Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills - Ability to manage multiple tasks with enthusiasm and prioritize workload with attention to detail - Ability to delegate work effectively and work methodically in a fast-paced environment - Critical thinking and problem-solving skills - Initiative, adaptability, and ability to cope with changing priorities - Ability to identify and implement process improvements - Proficiency in SQL Server and Oracle database administration - Experience in the life sciences sector and knowledge of ITIL V3 or V4 Educational Requirements: - Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline or related study - Fluent in English If you are a self-starter with solid professional experience in a similar role, possessing the necessary knowledge and experience in database administration and IT infrastructure, this role offers the opportunity to lead and contribute to the enhancement of our IT estate and database platforms.,
