A Pointsman is responsible for operating railway track switches (points) and signals to ensure the safe and efficient movement of trains within station limits, yards, and sidings.

Key Responsibilities:

Switch Operation:

Manually operate railway points to set tracks for train arrival, departure, or shunting.
Lock facing points in non-interlocked yards to prevent derailments.

Train Signalling:

Use hand flags or lights to signal train drivers.
Ensure signals are correctly set and visible.

Safety Checks:

Confirm that tracks are clear of obstructions.
Ensure stationary train brakes are away from fouling marks.

Coupling/Uncoupling:

Assist in coupling and uncoupling wagons and coaches during shunting operations.

Communication:

Coordinate with Controller and other railway staff.
Relay track status and signal updates
