Plc Programmer

Role & responsibilities

• Design and develop PLC programs using languages such as Ladder Logic, Structured Text, or Function Block Diagram to automate machinery, processes, and control systems.
• Collaborate with stakeholders, engineers, and clients to define system requirements, integrate PLCs with components like sensors, actuators, HMIs, and SCADA systems, and create reliable control logic.
• Install, commission, and configure PLC-based equipment at customer sites, ensuring proper setup, integration, and startup with existing infrastructure.
• Test, debug, and optimize PLC code in simulation and on-site environments to resolve issues, improve efficiency, and comply with standards like IEC 61131 and safety ratings (e.g., SIL or PL).
• Perform routine maintenance, preventive servicing, and inspections on PLC systems and related hardware to prevent failures and extend equipment lifespan.
• Diagnose and repair faults in PLC software, electrical, or mechanical systems during service calls, emergencies, or breakdowns, often traveling to remote locations for prompt resolution.
• Troubleshoot real-time production issues, implement fail-safe mechanisms, and conduct risk assessments to enhance system reliability and safety.
• Train end-users, operators, and client teams on PLC operation, system functionality, safety procedures, and basic troubleshooting.
• Document all activities, including PLC code, system architectures, service reports, resolutions, and recommendations for upgrades or improvements.
• Manage service contracts, warranties, spare parts inventory, and track components to support ongoing maintenance and minimize disruptions.
• Analyze performance data from PLC systems to identify trends, recommend optimizations, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Provide technical support during project handovers, respond to customer inquiries, and escalate complex issues to internal teams for resolution.
• Stay current with industry advancements, such as IoT integration or advanced automation technologies, and apply them to enhance service quality and system performance.
• Ensure all activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations, while delivering high-quality service to maintain customer satisfaction.

Preferred candidate profile

Experience

• 2-5 years

  of hands-on experience in PLC programming, automation systems, and field service/support.
• Proven track record in designing, programming, commissioning, and maintaining PLC-based control systems.
• Experience in industrial/manufacturing environments (e.g., automotive, food processing, pharmaceuticals, or general automation).
• Prior roles such as PLC Programmer, Automation Technician, Controls Engineer, Field Service Engineer, or PLC Technician are ideal.
• Experience with system integration, upgrades, and on-site troubleshooting during production or emergencies.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in PLC programming languages

  : Ladder Logic (LD), Structured Text (ST), Function Block Diagram (FBD), Sequential Function Chart (SFC).

• Expertise with major PLC platforms

  : Allen-Bradley (RSLogix/Studio 5000), Siemens (TIA Portal/S7), Schneider Electric, or similar.

• Integration skills

  : HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces), SCADA systems, industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus), sensors, actuators, VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), and robotics/motion control.

• Troubleshooting and diagnostics

  : Electrical schematics, wiring, control panels, fault finding in hardware/software, and use of diagnostic tools.
• Familiarity with CAD/AutoCAD for design, risk assessments, fail-safe mechanisms, and simulation/testing environments.
• Basic knowledge of related technologies: IoT integration, cybersecurity in automation, and data analytics for performance optimization.
