OT TECHNICIAN

Pre-operative duties

• Prepare the operating room for surgery, including stocking and sterilizing equipment and instruments.
• Check and adjust surgical equipment and ensure it is fully functional before the procedure.
• Transport patients to and from the operating room.
• Assist in preparing patients, including positioning them for the procedure.
• Assist the anesthesiologist by arranging necessary drugs and equipment.

Intra-operative duties

• Provide technical assistance to surgeons and the surgical team during the operation.
• Pass instruments and other necessary supplies to the surgeon as needed.
• Maintain a sterile environment and ensure the surgical site remains clean and dry.
• Monitor patient safety and assist the nursing staff.

Post-operative duties

• Clean and disinfect the operating room area and equipment after each procedure.
• Properly handle and dispose of surgical instruments, waste, and hazardous materials.
• Restock the operating room with necessary supplies.
• Report any defective equipment for repair or replacement.

General duties and skills

• Maintain accurate inventory records for materials, consumables, and drugs.
• Coordinate with other hospital departments regarding surgical patients.
• Demonstrate strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
• Be able to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
