OT Technician

Department: Operation Theatre (OT) / Surgical Services

Location: AGL Hospital, Ghatikia, Bhubaneswar

Reporting To: OT In-charge / Nursing Superintendent / Hospital Administrator

Job Summary:

The Operations Technician is responsible for assisting in the smooth functioning of the Operation Theatre (OT) and ensuring all surgical equipment, instruments, and materials are properly prepared, sterilized, and maintained. The role involves supporting surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses during surgical procedures while maintaining high standards of asepsis and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in preparing the Operation Theatre before each surgery, including arranging instruments, surgical trays, and sterile drapes.

Ensure proper sterilization of surgical instruments and OT equipment using autoclaves and sterilizers.

Check the functionality of OT lights, suction machines, cautery units, anesthesia machines, and other equipment before every procedure.

Assist surgical and anesthesia teams during operations by handling instruments, connecting equipment, and ensuring smooth workflow.

Maintain inventory of surgical instruments, consumables, and disposables.

Handle waste segregation and ensure infection control practices are strictly followed.

Support maintenance and calibration schedules for OT machines.

Assist in patient transfer to and from the Operation Theatre safely and carefully.

Maintain OT cleanliness, hygiene, and proper documentation related to procedures and sterilization logs.

Coordinate with the biomedical and housekeeping teams for equipment maintenance and OT sanitation.

Qualifications & Skills:

Educational Qualification: Diploma or Certificate in Operation Theatre Technology (DOTT / OTT) or equivalent.

Experience: 1–3 years of experience in a hospital OT setup preferred (freshers with training may also apply).

Skills Required:

Knowledge of OT equipment and sterilization techniques.

Strong attention to detail and discipline in aseptic practices.

Good communication and teamwork skills.

Ability to remain calm and focused during emergency procedures.

Work Schedule:

Full-time, rotational shifts including weekends and emergencies.
