Job Summary:

Operation Theatre Nurse

Key Responsibilities:

Pre-operative Duties:

• Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments, equipment, and the operating room in accordance with infection control standards.
  
• Review patient medical histories, surgical plans, and ensure informed consent is in place.
  
• Assist with patient positioning and anesthesia preparation under supervision of anesthesiologists and surgeons.
  

Intra-operative Duties (Scrub & Circulating Nurse):

• Scrub Nurse: Assist the surgical team by passing instruments, maintaining a sterile field, and anticipating surgeon needs.
  
• Circulating Nurse: Manage supplies, equipment, and documentation during surgery; serve as a liaison between the surgical team and external departments.
  
• Monitor patient vitals and comfort levels throughout the procedure.
  
• Ensure accurate count of instruments, sponges, and needles to prevent retained surgical items.
  

Post-operative Duties:

• Provide post-operative care, including transferring patients to recovery rooms and updating patient records.
  
• Monitor for signs of complications and communicate effectively with recovery and ward teams.
  
• Assist in cleaning and preparing the OT for the next procedure.
  

Administrative & Compliance:

• Maintain accurate and detailed nursing documentation.
  
• Adhere to all hospital protocols, infection control standards, and safety guidelines.
  
• Participate in audits, training programs, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Required Skills:

• Strong understanding of surgical procedures, sterile techniques, and OT protocols
  
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and in emergency situations
  
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  
• Attention to detail and high standards of infection control
  
• Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and documentation
