Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

1. Clinical Duties

  • Perform and report a wide range of nuclear medicine diagnostic and therapeutic procedures (e.g., PET/CT, SPECT/CT, radionuclide therapies).
  • Interpret nuclear medicine scans and correlate findings with other imaging modalities and clinical information.
  • Provide expert clinical advice to referring physicians and participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings.
  • Supervise the administration of radiopharmaceuticals, ensuring patient safety and adherence to radiation protection standards.
  • Participate in the development of patient management plans, integrating nuclear medicine findings into overall clinical care.

2. Leadership and Management

  • Lead and manage the nuclear medicine service in conjunction with radiologists, physicists, and technologists.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, service development, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory frameworks (e.g., ARSAC, IRMER, IRR).
  • Participate in departmental governance, audit, and risk management activities.

3. Teaching and Training

  • Provide teaching and mentorship to medical students, trainees, technologists, and allied health professionals.
  • Contribute to postgraduate and continuing professional development programs.
  • Participate in educational meetings and workshops at local, national, or international levels.

4. Research and Innovation

  • Engage in clinical research, audits, and service evaluations.
  • Promote evidence-based practice and contribute to publications or clinical trials in nuclear medicine.
  • Support innovation in diagnostic imaging and radionuclide therapy techniques.

5. Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and timely patient records and reports.
  • Contribute to departmental policy formulation and protocol updates.
  • Participate in on-call duties if required.

Job Specification: Nuclear Medicine Consultant

Qualifications:

  • MBBS or equivalent medical degree.
  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians or Radiologists (FRCR) or equivalent.
  • Specialist registration with the

    General Medical Council (GMC)

    or relevant national licensing authority.
  • Recognized postgraduate training in

    Nuclear Medicine

    (CCT or equivalent).
  • Valid certification in radiation protection and radiopharmaceutical safety.

Experience:

  • Extensive clinical experience in diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine, including PET/CT and SPECT/CT.
  • Proven ability to interpret complex imaging studies and provide clinically relevant reports.
  • Experience in radionuclide therapy for benign and malignant conditions.
  • Previous involvement in clinical research, audit, and teaching.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary clinical teams.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • In-depth understanding of radiopharmaceuticals, radiation physics, and imaging technologies.
  • Competence in radiation safety, dosimetry, and quality assurance.
  • Strong diagnostic, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Leadership and team management capabilities.
