NR PHY Test Development Engineer

Role & responsibilities

• Development and Integration of new 5G/NR protocol features in close collaboration with the PHY/Stack development teams.
• Find the gaps in the NR PHY feature tests and develop tests to cover those scenarios
• Provide feedback in regular team meetings with development and regression teams in Munich and India.
• Report of the NR PHY test performance towards the NR Stack Release Manager.
• Collaboration with other groups inside Rohde & Schwarz global organization on topics of customer defect reproduction and issues from CMX system integration.
• Daily execution of the NR PHY RF regression test cases using the established scheduling, test and result processing toolchain on the R&S CMX500.
• First-level analysis of the failing test results. Report defects and resolve failing test cases in close collaboration with the different development teams in Munich and India. Track open defects across consecutive test runs until they are resolved.
• Maintenance of the hardware equipment in the local labs and keeping software deployments and toolchains consistent with the overall test infrastructure, with consists of a distributed deployment across sites in Munich, India and China.

Preferred candidate profile

• At least BSc/BTech level education in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
• Knowledge of the 3GPP 5G/NR or 4G/LTE mobile radio standards, especially with a big focus on the physical layer. RF knowledge and signal processing experience are a plus.
• Profound knowledge of Python (PyCharm, PyTest) for developing test scripts.
• Experience working with test & measurement systems like the R&S CMX radio communication tester, oscilloscopes, vector signal generators or spectrum analyzers in manual and remote control (e.g. SCPI) is desired.
• Experience with GIT version control and issue tracking tools (e.g. RTC/jazz or Jira).
• Fluent communication in English, openness to collaborate in an international environment with colleagues of diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Structured analytical thinking with a good problem-solving competence.
• Ability to self-start in a complex environment, showing initiative not only in solving assigned problems but also defining which problems are to be solved, and which are highest priority.
• Motivated to drill down complex issues and solve them in a team of globally distributed experts.
• Open-minded towards adopting new ideas, processes and technologies. Striving for a continuous improvement of the status quo.
