Module Lead - Backend Engineering

You will:

We are looking for a Module Lead - Backend who can lead design and development across our suite of business and connected products - including Website, Dealer Management System (DMS), Mobile App, and Connected Vehicle Platform backends. You will guide the team in building scalable, modular, and event-driven services using Node.js, JavaScript, and Kafka, ensuring performance, security, and maintainability across multiple domains.

To be successful, you will be expected to:

• Lead the architecture and development of backend modules using Node.js and Express/Nest.js, ensuring clean modular design.
• Build and maintain REST and GraphQL APIs consumed by web and mobile applications.
• Design and optimize Kafka-based event flows for asynchronous communication and inter-service orchestration.
• Collaborate closely with frontend, mobile, and data engineering teams to align backend design with business needs.
• Implement authentication, authorization, caching, and rate-limiting mechanisms for high-performance services.
• Drive code reviews, design discussions, and best practices across the backend team.
• Build observability through structured logging, metrics, and alerts to ensure uptime and service reliability.
• Mentor SDEs, plan sprint deliverables, and own the end-to-end module delivery.

You must have any or a combination of any of the following skills:

• Tech Stack Languages: Node.js, JavaScript (ES6+), TypeScript (preferred)
• Core Tools: Kafka, Redis, PostgreSQL/MySQL, MongoDB, REST/GraphQL
• Infrastructure: GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions
• Frameworks & Libraries: Express.js, Nest.js, Socket.IO, Sequelize/Prisma
• Dev Practices: Domain-driven design, event-driven architecture, modular monolith/microservice patterns
• Strong foundation in Node.js, API design, and Kafka-based asynchronous systems.
• Experience in building modular monoliths or microservice ecosystems.
• Solid understanding of database design, transactions, and query optimization.
• Ability to own technical direction, define patterns, and guide multiple backend teams.
• Experience integrating with data and analytics systems (Pinot, ClickHouse, etc.) is a plus.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills with a hands-on coding mindset.

Scope of Work

You will be leading backend development across:

• Website & DMS - Dealer operations, lead management, CRM integrations, payments, and internal tools.
• Mobile App Backend - User authentication, profile, vehicle pairing, trips, and notifications.
• Connected Platform APIs - Handling telemetry data, OTA rollouts, vehicle insights, and partner integrations.
