The Mainframe Infrastructure and Application Engineer will be responsible for providing thought leadership, guidance and create solutions to position DXC s customers for the future. This individual will create designs based on abstract concepts and existing manual activities. This role will bring an application perspective to the infrastructure organization. It will provide approaches to optimizing mainframe application for cost and product selection. This role will also assist in ensuring that the tools and process automation for developers that is being put in place are consistent with modern tools.
This role will also assist in create the approach and steps to move application code from z/OS to zLinux on the same machine. This will include batch, DB2, CICS, MQ, and IMS based code.
Job specifics/responsibilities:
- Identify, architect, design and implement optimization methods
- Meet the program requirements.
- Integrate with the ES standard management tools.
- Perform flow and software modification after the solution has been brought in production
- Promote standardization and automation during implementation.
- Help expand are engineering repositories (Playbooks, CMR) and Portfolio websites/repositories (What we sell, DXC Portfolio portals).
- Ensure that existing implementation / deliverables / templates are leveraged to satisfy new work requests.
- Ensure applicable content standards are met.
- Ensure peer review deliverables are logged.
- Store engineering related collateral in approved configuration management repository.
- Produce/review/participate Low Level Designs based on High Level Designs and client requirements.
- Ensure projects and tasks to be performed with the highest quality and according to documentation in predefined timelines.

- Design approaches to optimize mainframe application via software consolidation / replacement.
- Pilot the approaches to aid in the automation of the optimization

Working relationships:
Education (degree) and professional experience required:
- Degree in computer science, information technology, information systems or electrical engineering or equivalent
- At least 3 years experience in an advanced support role or equivalent
- Customer facing experience

Technical skills (procedures and documents the employee has to be acquainted with):

- Several years of Application and infrastructure engineering experience
- COBOL & DB2 development experience
- Experience in migrating code and/or data from z/OS to Linux
- Mainframe job scheduler such as BMC- Control/M, CA-7, etc
- Excellent understanding of DXC ITSM/ITIL framework and processes
- Proficient knowledge of DXC workflow tools
- MS Office

- Linux scripting
- Experience with one or more of the following: Java, Python, Windows PowerShell, Perl, Linux Shell, SQL scripting, VBScript
